Getting s5 belts replaced, lol!

Mazda calls me (Guess they didn't remember I was okay with the car there over night)

The guy tells me something about a drivers side headliner broken but didn't describe anything.

Is that the interior plastics? He's like I'm hoping for one tomorrow you were okay with the car over night otherwise we can give you one to drive.... which leads me to believe they broke some of the interior plastics

They broke mine and told me there was nothing they could do because I signed something saying they didnt have to fix what I broke because they were installing my seatbelts for free. A bunch of BS.

Take pictures with a newspaper before you take the car there. Anything they break they need to replace.

Wait .... Why would you even take a car to a dealership just for belts? Especially an rx7, there easier then pie. A kindergarten kid could figure it out.

I don't mind the auto belts, kinda like it.

I was going to pull the interior myself but with time stamped photos, I should be alright.

I'm pretty sure I woulda broke some plastics, it looks like what holds the trim in is those round plastic thingys, they have a tendancy to break right off, then I'd have to get moar.

Hopefully I get her back today

Edit

I had to take her in btw, one belts cable is hanging out, my belt buckle is broken and I use a screw to hold my belt in :X the belt motors are disconnected... the belt system has a mind of its own I could be in the car with the doors closed while its off and there'll be this ticking sound over n over from under the pass dash. Guess its a relay or something but man it'll click for HOURS, so I hope this fix's that. It is with the belts, if the keys are turned to on the belt cluster light will flicker in sync with the clicking.

God that ******* clicking, this one 3hr drive I went on it didn't stop till I got there

Mine's literally flawless.

I also got some stuff to repair the tears in the back of my seats.

Called mazdah up, should be gettng her in a few hours =D I hope the belts work good.

thank god they didn't make me pay for anything, told them the belts moving back n forth broke the thing the belt buckle goes into (was really some idiot wrapped my seatbelt around himself and when he opened the door to get out and the strong motors moved the belt, snapped it apart :|

Wish me luck that theres nothing broken :'(

Just for the record. Mazda only has to fix them once for free.

If they fail a second time they won't replace them.

Arnt the new belts better designed I think I herd?

I've seen other cars with passive belts older than my s5 and with 3x the miles, and their belts still go back n forth fine, I cant see why mazda can't make a good belt system lol.

Why do they only have to replace it once? The recall says mazda has to replace it for the lifetime of the vehicle or something in the usa because it's a safety issue.

I haven't heard anything to substantiate that.

However I don't think they would replace a recalled item with the same unit.

Logic says yes, but we are talking about Mazda Service Departments here.

I just cranked them back manually and then pulled the fuse. Done.

Well you were right, I would have been right a couple years ago.

I spoke with a local dealer about it here in passing and the service guy said they only did them once.

So based on what you guys said I just called Mazda N.A.O. 1-800-222-5500 option 4 (for recalls). The customer service rep told me that there has been an addendum added to the recall and yes Mazda is doing them for the life of the vehicle.

Apparently in the beginning it was only going to be once or it was never specified in the original recall and therefore they default to the one time only rule. The CSR didn't really get into all of that.

FYI the recall number is 68702

Awesome.
