ok so my driver outer door handle broke. (the fang shaped metal piece on the left side broke) this means that there is nothing to push down the rod that works the door mechanism. (still with me?) and i have a few questions about replacement.

1.Can i just replace the handle itself? or do i have to replace the whole handle+lock.

2. if i replace the whole handle piece itself, is it possible to somehow keep the lock that matches my key? because i dont want a door handle with a lock that wont work with my key. (it'll irritate me after awhile).

3. how in the world do you take out the door handle? i know tha u can get to the screws with the window up and the window down. but after that it wont just simply wiggle out because it seems to big for the hole, and plus there ishella stuff connected to it for the night light.

i know its alot but please help. its annoying having to enter my car from the passenger.

1. No, the whole thing.

2. Yes, you can carefully switch the lock cylinder to the new handle

3. Two 10mm nuts on the back of the handle. Pull off both linkages and unplug the wires for the security if equipped, then push the handle out of the door, it will fit out the hole, just will take a bit to figure out how.



I made a frankenstien handle on my old vert. the same piece you described broke, and I was able to make up a small piece of metal and drill in a couple self tapping screws to put over the break. Worked great, no jb weld required.
Also, my lock cylinder was messed up due to that little ******* plastic door breaking and getting wedged inside, so I took the cylinder out, removed the tumblers, got that piece out, and put everything back together and it worked great.


I would try fixing it if you have the tools to do it, save yourself the money for another handle.

how were u able to connect the two pieces? and how in the world did u get the space for it? beside the plastic bag and the plastic plug hole i dnt see how u could get in there. but any tips would help great.

^I took the handle out of the car first.

Space was very tight to connect the pieces, but I made it work with a little help from a dremel. Just used a thin piece of metal cut to shape, and some thin headed short screws.

Trick for removing the handle.

First, remove the door cover.

Second, remove the two 10mm nuts

third, disconnect the pig tail to the door handle at the small white connector. Also, disconnect the pigtail snap from the inside of the door.

fourth, remove the two 10mm nuts

fifth, remove the three screws holding the latching This will give you wiggle room to remove the handle.

sixth, disconnect the swivel snap to the door lock rod.

Now simply pull out and push down and toward the rear of the car on the handle until you can wiggle the latching rod out. Unsnap the latching rod, snake the pig tail out and the handle is free to work on or replace.

A simple snap spring is all that holds the door lock cylinder into the handle.
