i own a 88 rx7 with n/a body with s4 T2 engine running megasquirt

Did you try cleaning all the grounds in the engine compartment and replacing the solenoid on the starter?

the thing is, unless you have the anti theft module in place, then there is already a direct feed to the starter. the + battery wire goes straight to the starter. The - goes to the strut tower and then to the starter body. Then just one wire going to the key switch. in the s5 it some times goes through an anti theft module.
