Broke Divers side lock. Need help.

Broke Divers side lock. Need help.
Recently my drivers side door lock broke.
It is a 88 SE NA. I got the door panel off but cant seem to c what broke.
I pushed a rod down in there and temp fixed it. I have to keep the door unlocked to open it from the inside and out. If i lock the door it will not open again when i unlock it.
Please help or make suggestions.
