Mazda : RX-7 Turbo Coupe 2-Door

$50k and only 256 miles on the clock, right....

granted i do like the idea and have never actually seen a gulled FC before, even if the ad is a scam.

it gives me some ideas of how to go about it but i would never hack up my TII to do it. might not be a scam but it is the worst $50k ad for a single sale i have ever seen, let alone the conversion shouldn't add that much to the value...

i am curious how they latch the doors though, i see no strikers anywhere. if it holds the doors closed just from hydraulic pressure then that is derpy.

The latches must be down in the sill/rocker extension they installed.

I appreciate the concept when driven by need (as in the original 300 SL) but think it's unnecessary weirdness when retrofitted just for the hell of it.

well, then no one would do new and unique mods and all changes would be done by off the shelf items so all cars would be similar in many ways.

kinda like the old turbovert FBs that Pacific Avatar put out.

but if this company was seriously charging that much to do this modification, it's no wonder no one ever saw any of them. even a collector with money would be hard pressed to pay up to $10k for a gullwing modification. sure looks better than the fucked up lambo door kits everyone has been using, and probably more practical, i had an 8 in the shop with lambo doors and i had to turn my body sideways to get into the car and i am not a big person..

That's not gullwing. That's just stupidly hinging the doors at the roof.

This is a gullwing FC:

Two issues I see with your example, Aaron:

-Betcha it leaks at the roof and even if not, opening the door when raining will soak the interior.

-How freakishly long do your arms have to be to reach the door when you're in the seat?

While I don't know the specifics of the FC in the picture, properly designed gullwings have a trough around the roof opening much like regular doors openings have a drip edge. The FC in the picture isn't complete but hopefully the added something like that.

Pull handle. Or, begin closing the door as one steps into the vehicle. Or get really fancy and install a linear actuator.

Here's another gullwing FC from my archives:

it may not be a traditional gullwing but it actually fits the car better than a true gullwing. also not a fan of hacking up structural ridigty.

For simplicity purpose, might as well just go with a "lambo" kit and call it a day.

hate lambo doors, half the kits aren't proper anyways and you have to contort to even get into the car.

One would need to build a frame and restructure the roof anyway to support the doors so I'd hope, at least the way I would accomplish this, is that the builder continued that frame down to the sills and floor of the vehicle.

This is something I have been toying with for years. The general shape of the FC door is very complimentary to gull wing. Made some crude cuts on a parts car years back. Just never have bit the bullet and actually gone all the way. Maybe next time I have a parts car.

This is probably the only one that won't fold in half. It looks like they beefed up the frame around the bottom.

a base non sunroof model would also likely be needed otherwise require more modification and shaping. i ditched the idea of a center pivot design in favor of keeping the sunroof.
