They sell Decals of that sign. But I plan on getting a J-Spec anyways so it will be on there already.

you do understand that the decal being discussed only comes on Infini model FC's right? Unless someone put it on their car themselves. But here's what your looking at:

1. Actually finding an Infini model
2. Actually paying to import one when your doing this b/c to fix your car, it would cost $1500?
3. And trying to import the car complete with the engine still inside the car? I would love to see this. Even if the engine was removed and in the same container. lol.

Seriously. Customs is starting to crack down big time on people trying to import cars and slip through the loop-holes. We had numerous shops around us that flourished w/ business but they all are slowly packing up shop b/c the restrictions are getting too tight.

I'm not saying it can't be done or anything by all means b/c it can. But it usually when everything goes smooth and according to plan will cost a lot of money. Probably more money than what most people would dish out for an immaculate FC from across the pond.

Why do they care so much about cars being imported? Shouldn't they be worried about more harmful things coming into the country? The only valid reason I see is emissions, but not all states are butthurt about emissions. D.O.T. standards for lights and stuff are just retarded. You don't see people in Japan or any other country crashing into each other all the time because of lighting issues, if the lights are good enough there, they're good enough here. Safety standards are different from country to country, but if a driver wants to drive a car that could possibly be a death-trap, it should be up to them (I can see issues with insurance rising from that, but if it's insurable overseas, it should be okay here right?). And there's no way in hell an FC or a GT-R will cause more damage than a Hummer or Escalade in the event of a collision. Pedestrian safety is also an issue, but how come a car is okay in one country but not here? Last I checked, people aren't any less fragile in Japan or Europe.
Why is it easier to smuggle in a kilo of cocaine than it is to import a car?

I think what it comes down to is that fact that the car doesnt have a vin, doesnt meet the safety requirements set by the US. Because of those things, the US doesnt want the cars to come in.

What if a terrorist had a JDM vehicle that was impossible to find because it wasn't "legally" registered and what not.

Or what happens when you drive around your JDM car and you get into a accident ?

I know, i know, it is stretching it in those situations but seriously, if you just think about it, it makes sense

And this is coming from a guy who really wants to import a R32 someday

Japan's directed market for the specific vehicles, The US Department of Transportation's standards, and US customs doing their jobs all are obviously why its so hard to import said cars .

If you can get even a JDM shell for an FC, and then build it like in your garage. You can get it registered as a kit car, and it will be legal. That's the best of I've heard of doing it. Otherwise join the military and asked to be stationed in Okinawa. My friend did that and has a completely legit Skyline R32

TX J-Spec

The only reason I wanted to get a J-Spec would be because of the following:

1.It will already have a turbo and have all the stuff a regular T2 would have and would save me the trouble of doing a T2 conversion.(That is time/money right there)

2. It will be RHD! just like the actual car in the anime/Manga. Having it be RHD I think is what really makes the replica car an actual replica.

3. It is going to cost me $1500 just to fix the car. That is not including the paint to make it white, the T2 Conversion, or all the other features the Ryosuke's car has that are already on a J-Spec car.

I am fixing my N/A no matter what but that is going to be my daily driver. It is going to be a while before I get the rest of the parts I need for a T2 conversion, and even when I do the conversion itself if I don't do it ASAP I will be with out a car until it is finished. I don't think making your DD you project car is a good idea what do you guys think? I am down with this project but I think getting an imported car is going to be the best way to achieved a perfect replica even if it is not the cheapest.

My DD is my project car. Currently converting the body to S5. I drift my car at a track, and then take it to school the next day. It's n/a with 52,xxx original, so it in good shape. TII swap will come eventually. Sometimes you have to work with what you have.

I know but I just think if I want the perfect replica I should use a J-Spec car. I might still use my car. I have been through a lot with my car and I haven't even got a chance to drive her on the road legally yet just around the block annoying the **** out of my neighbors (Car had no exhaust at the time) lol. I have a T2 rear end with the half shafts and this guy in Waco is selling a T2 tranny for $150 and there is a place right by my house that sells T2 engines for $600. I can make my car the replica but it would be so much more work/time/money as appose to getting a J-Spec later. If I can get the T2 conversion on my car fairly easy I will see where it goes from there.

I took the driver side door and quarter panel off the red car (Parts car) and put it on my black car. I still might use that shell after I do the T2 swap I could put my old motor and drive line in it and have two FCs and just get a new door and fender.

have you thought of importing a rhd dash and converting it to rhd? people on the forum who visit/live in japan would probably be willing to help you out....harnesses get shipped all the time with the jspec motors and are thrown away because the rhd/lhd incompatibilities--you could probably get a hold of a couple for free and make a decent one... iono food for thought.

There is so many ways to go wrong with doing a RHD conversion though. They can turn really crappy, really fast, I've seen some bad ones before.

Better to import the shell, install everything, call it a kit car.

TX Jspec or my Car?

I am still debating weather or not to use my car for the replica project. If I can do the T2 conversion smoothly and with low funds and get everything to work right I will make my decsion from there. I was planning on just going to Florida and try to find a RHD FC Shell/Car for sale and just buy it and tow it home to Texas.

Like I said though I am still running threw all the little details and cost of doing each. This is my only car at the moment so I am trying to make sure anytime I take to do any long term changes has to be quick and short or I will be with out a car untill it is done.

I also have that parts car with out a door that I could use. So many ways to do this project I just want to pick the one that will get the job done the cheapest/fastest way possible. In no way am I in a hurry though
