AE restoration

What's up gang. I finally decided to show my face again after a long break from rx7 forums. My last TII got totalled as some of u might have seen the random pics of devasted white 7 with both rear rims broke off. Anyway I got a new toy while back from a good friend and forum member but I was taking my time with putting it back on the road. Well past couple months I really kicked the project into high gear and here's what I've done so far. The car was in rough shape even though it didn't look like it from the outside. So far i'm getting body work done.

Engine bay was filthy as any 20+ year old car and the left rail was being eaten away from years of battery acid leakage. All the rust was sandblasted away and rusted rail was coated with 3M panel bond epoxy which has rust inhibitor properties just to be sure. New seam sealer was applied and now the engine bay is spanking new looking. I even threw in a couple runs in paint to match the original look . Then it was time to do the rest. And the fun begins...

Great to see restorations, especially on a 10AE. What's your plans with it, keeping it original?

I'm all about a nicely tuned 7 with some very mild yet tasty exterior modifications, but since I got a hold of a AE I'm obligated to keep it looking stock. If it was any other trim I would make it look like my previous seven, but I gotta keep this one looking original. Only mods will be under the hood, suspension and exhaust. Unless you guys think otherwise? Maybe just put on some nicer wheels or keep original 7-spoke ones? btw that's my previous passion...

I like your plan. Keep the stock wheels, store them somewhere safe, but pick up something less lame to roll w/ on the daily. Other than that leave the exterior stock.

Looks good you decide on what kind of paint your putting on?I'm in the process of finishing my 10th ae build myself and am interested in seeing what other guys are doing. My interior is already tampered as is under the hood however :P

Also just put on a set of BBS LM F1s I bought locally.I'll be starting a thread very soon.

Good luck buddy

That's what somebody else told me today, but right now the plan is to restore stock rims and use them on the car. Only noticeable exterior mod will be the racing beat mufflers (new style) sticking out the back. Im even keeping the factory windshield which is tintend slightly from the factory

Im putting original color on it with PPG basecoat+clearcoat. Engine bay, doors, fenders and door jams will have single stage urethane on them as its easier to trim those parts out with it in my garage. Exterior body gets top notch paint. My interior is in excellent shape except for seats which will have to be reupholstered. And yes its gonna stay that way.

Good luck to you to and hope to see some pics of ur car.
