Steering and suspension

I have a 1991 rx7 covertible and am have some really stiff steering issues also sometimes it pops like a ball joint is going out and am looking for advice. Also I’d like to do some modifications to the motor like Ecu and fuel intake would also appreciate advice on that as well. I plan to swap ou transmission to add a turbo and am wondering if that is a must to instal a turbo?

for the steering thing, you might just look at the ball joints, if it pops like one going bad, maybe it is. also the strut tops, and the tie rods should be checked.

its a pretty normal steering/front suspension

If its popping when turning, check the coil springs and strut mounts first. A broken spring and a fail mount, which contains the bearing plate, can cause a popping noise when you turn. A poose tie rid end can cause a clunk and steering wander. Also be sure to check the control arm bushings and ensure they are no full of cracks or deteriorating as that can cause a clunk when turning or a clunk and steering wander on the road.

If you are hearing the noise over bumps, inspect the above plus check the ball joints for play and check the sway bar bushings to e sure they have not shrunken or deteriorated. Next, check the sway bar end links and ensure they are tight.

Let us know what you come up with.
