Rust hole

Hello I recently bought a 86 rx7 to turn into my first drag build there’s this rust hole on the passenger side under the door I was wondering if that’s a structural issue if I need to get it welded before putting a cage in it
any info would be greatly appreciated

A cage will greatly increase the rigidity of the chassis overall, however depending on where the tie-in points are, you may need to cut that section out and replace the metal. Since this will be a drag car and you're already doing fabrication, it's probably worth addressing now, as the old saying goes "when you find rust you can see, there's more rust you can't". It's worth digging into to make sure the car is safe.
