Rims and tires/suspension

Car is going for its first ride tonight! Has me thinking about rims and tires which I would need pretty badly. I plan to upgrade suspension in the future and would like some affordable options that people have been using. Also needs ideas about rims and tires. It is the 4 lug pattern, was thinking a bit wider in the rear, any recommendations?

well congrats on getting it running!

for tires it kind of depends, but for a street type car, a 205/50/15 is great, its a little shorter than the stock 205/60/15, which just helps the gearing. plus its a common race car size, so there are probably lots of choices
you would want a 15x7 wheel for this, at least 15x8 would be better if you're going racing. ideally you'd keep the offset in the front 40 or maybe 35, close to stock

for a street car, the stock suspension is not bad, the recipe i was happy with was;
it needs more negative camber in the front, you can rotate the strut tops, which is easy. then you can loosen the suspension bolts, and re torque them while someone is pulling the bottom of the front wheel out and pushing the top in. i was able to get -0.5 which is enough on the street.
i played with front Toe in and steering feels the best with zero toe.

in the rear toe in makes a huge difference, and it also matters if the DTSS is there or you've cancelled it. on a car with DTSS zero toe feels great, but it also feels like it wanted you to be on the gas before you turn in, which is not always possible on the street, i think with the DTSS i ended up around stock. without i don't know, i'd start around zero, and see what felt ok.
in the rear camber kind of depends on the ride height, and how the bushings are, you want around -1.5 or so but you get what you get.

for actual parts to change, i like the AGX shocks, although i don't really know what else is out there.
you can do coilovers on the street, the typical rate is 8/6 or 450/350lbs, on a street car it might be nicer to go a little softer, 7/5 which i think is 400/300?

it is worth doing the bushings, i think, particularly the diff and subframe.
it is also nice to have a camber link, so you can trim out the camber

Ended up picking up some used konigs which actually look pretty good. They are 17x7 tires are 205/55/17

2 tires need replacement right away other 2 not bad. Should I replace the rear with 225/55/17? What about spacers to bump wheels out?

those are interesting wheels, they look good.
on a 7" wheel you really want to stick with a 205 tire.
in the front you also really want to stay near the stock offset, which is 40. in the rear though spacers are fine

Thanks, I took a picture of the rear tires to show where they are at. Unsure of the offset of these rims. Should I space them out to flush with fender?

Remember if you space them you may have less threads for the wheel nuts. You can either use longer studs if required or a bolt on spacer.

For the rear on mine I had to use bolt on spacers.

I would run a lower profile tire. On a 17" wheel IMO the 55 looks too tall. I looked at tire/ wheel packages on Tire Rack and they are saying 215/45-17 on a 7" wheel. For a 205 I would at least drop to a 50 profile but they do make a 205/45-17 as well. I'm running a 225/45-17 and it looks about right, but I'm on an 8" wide wheel.

Glad to hear it's finally going for it's first drive!

Didn't your car come with mudflaps though? I remember noticing them because they're fairly rare.

I agree with Dak that 55 is a bit tall. Nothing functionally wrong with it, but I am running a 225/45R17 like Dak (7.5" wheel I think) and it looks like this:

The sidewall is already fairly meaty at 45, I think 55 would be too much

I did have mudflaps but they were cracked and I ended up throwing them out. I was wrong about profile the tires on the picture are 50 not 55. Maybe I’ll look at a lower profile. Should I do 215/45 in rear and 205/45 upfront? Thanks for any advice

mine is 205/50/17 and 225/45/17, its not a great pic, but imo the rear wheels need a little something. i'm thinking about a bigger spacer or i might go with a 225/50/17
wheels are 17x7 and 17x8
