Alright everyone. I have a delima, what color should I paint my car. I know, its all personal preference. I was looking for some ideas and opinions.
My first thought is, Battleship gray or a Haze gray in a flat or matte finish, leave the black moulding black and polish the wheels out, I was going to leave the jambs and undeer the hood red and just polish/clean them up really good.
Second is keep it red but do a viper red or some type of Ferrari red.
Third, on either one should I paint the moulding also or leave it black.
Please let me know what you think or if you have any ideas, that would be greatly appreciated.
It looks good in the pics, there are runs in the paint and some dings and flaws I want worked out.
Im not personally a big fan of painted trim on the s4 but maybe if in the scheme of things, if you have any pics that would be great. See below for the current state of my car.

If you change the exterior color, not doing the door/hatch jambs is just criminal slackiness.
If the new exterior color goes well with the red in the bay, the bay can stay red. Otherwise, no.
(It'd help if you showed what the bay looks like)
I'll suggest you panda the car.
Everything above the body trim stays red and everything below is black.
This really changes the side profile of the FC, which has a fairly dumpy greenhouse>beltline ratio, which the panda paint minimizes.
Think of 70's Italian supercars, many of which were painted exactly like that.
I see you have no spoiler and wind up windows...did you hit the trifecta and is it a non-sunroof car too?
Your car already looks amazing, but if you truly desire painting it that badly, I'd go with the Battleship gray. That color makes sports cars look great (especially Porsches).
If you're gonna neglect the jambs/bay, you might as well just get a fresh red paint job to match. It's just going to disappoint you to have a cool grey paint job, then open your door or hood and sigh. I'd paint the trim too, either red to match or black. Are you taking it to a generic Pay-N-Spray or someone you know?
if you are going a custom red color you might want to look at ford high performance red('93/'03). im partial to it cause its what on my father/mine '69 mustang mach1. I have been told its cheaper than Viper and Ferrari reds in the small cans.
the only way I see not painting door jams and under the hood would be nice would be if the paint is in good shape and it would match your trim color when done. which leads to paint the trim or get some new trim if you aren't happy with yours. just be thankful you don't have custom rocker stripes like we have on the mach1 cause anytime we get paint or clear coat work done on it to where we have to mess with the rocker stripes we have to replace the whole set($450 for a complete reflective gold/white set).

I do somewhat have the trifecta, I do have a sun roof but it is a non power steering car.
Thanks everyone, I opened this thread for general discussion and opinion purposes. I am goin to kind of reply to everyone here.
The slakiness/criminal aspect of not painting the door jambs also is very true and I cant stand it when I see it on other cars, my theory was a hot/rat rod look with the red jambs and under hood with the battleship grey, but it would probably just look like crap.
Thanks for the red paint options, my jambs look pretty decent now, so I could probably get away with just a respray. Thats really my intention, I dont need a 3,000 dollar paint job on a 3,000 dollar car. I plan on keeping it as nice as possible. Deffinatly not a resto project.
I wanted to change the color for a change of scenary. But at the same time Im thinking of keeping it red, so not much a change there, huh.
I like the panda idea, if I did that I would have to go initial d style with white and black.
i'd keep it red, but go for a newer/better red. the FD vintage red is really cool, its RED. the S4 red is orange, and the S5 is blue. i like the S5 red too.
or maybe the Rx8 velocity red, its red with metallic, so the jambs would be ok as is.
I would not paint it my self, and I have decided I am going to go back with red. Never been a fan of red, but it is really growing on me with this car and I like the look with the black trim and the black wheels. My two options are a respray or I have found someone that does wraps or like a plasti dip type of spray for an entire vehicle.
Man if I were you I would stick to the same base color. I just bought my 1991 RHD rx7 Savanna I only own my car for about 2 weeks and she is already getting ready for a paint job. She is currently stock black. I am sticking to the black base but going with tuxedo black. Then my engine bay will still match. I won't have to pull my engine. If you do a full color change what will you do for your engine bay? Just food for thought.

Always liked the panda scheme paint job on this car. Might be a source of reference/inspiration. Another unique idea could be to paint the black trim of the S4 tail lights to match the red body.
