MAF trouble

hi yall, my fc is giving me more grief as per usual. it dosent want to run and it seems like it’s flooding itself out but will run and limp-drive with the MAF unplugged. i replaced the MAF but it’s still doing the same thing. any thoughts as to what’s wrong? it turns over and sputters a lot but just can’t get running. i’ve taken the upper intake manifold off like 5 times now looking for vacuum leaks and missed wires but can’t find anything.

another update
I pulled the mass air flow sensor cable off and found a silver wire that wasn’t connected to anything and it was stripped. I tried grounding that but it didn’t do anything. All five of the wires to the mass. Airflow sensor are hooked in properly, but there’s this extra wire anyone know anything about that? ignore my quick splice job.

Have you tried holding the flap open and starting? That sometimes works.

Not sure about your wire. I need a wiring diagram.

A massive vacuum leak might cause the same issue.

Compression test just for giggles and assurance.

Are you smelling a lot of gas after the stall?

if i hold the MAF open it runs fine so i replaced it thinking it was bad but it didn’t change anything. i don’t smell much gas at least not more than normal but it’s been a long time since it ran so i could be wrong.

There was a problem like this last year here. I can't find the thread now.

I know that we started with a vacuum smoke test.
