Engine not revving past 4K

Recently purchased a Vert 1990 Rx7 as a project car. It runs but it only revs to about 4k and from there on it’s pretty janky, it’s also very late at switching gears. Anyone have any ideas as to what I can do to fix this problem?

Check for codes and go from there. Ground the single green connector near the leading coil to the battery negative and watch the CEL flashes as outlined in the factory service manual. You can find it at Foxed.ca

I just fixed this issue last week. For my 88 vert I figured out the secondary injectors (which kick in past 3800 rpm) were bad. I replaced all 4 of them and it fixed the issue.
