I'd love to see a pick of some gold calipers. Anybody?

 

Not great pictures, but it's the only ones I have of his car with them painted a gold'ish color.

 

hmm that is similar to somehting I was thinking of going with. The wheels were perfect because I wanted to see how the gold would look "wit da mad bling yo.."

I second the "anyone powdercoat" question. I know a lot of people that have done it on other cars. Could possible even do a thermal emissive coating of some sort

My tastes as follows...

On a Red car either Red or Black.

On a Silver car either Yellow, Gold or Black.

On a Black car either Yellow, Gold, Polished, or Red.

On a Blue car either Yellow, Gold, or Polished.

On a CYM car Black or Polished.

 

I wouldn't go thru the trouble of powdercoating the calipers. The paint from Kragens is specifically meant for extreme high temperature conditions. Just do what I did and put on 3-5 coats of whatever color you like and it'll be fine.

Oh and it only costed me ~$10 or so for the DIY, plus I have extra left over paint, sand paper, and clear coat. Way more worth it than powdercoating it and saves time and hassle of trying to remove the calipers and sending them off to a shop for the job.

BTW, I didn't even have to put on a primer layer. I just sanded it cleaned it off with brake cleaner and started spraying away...........................

 

Silver or polished with red letters would look sweet..

 

My Mother in Law just bought a new G35 Coupe, and it is Red with the Gold Brembo calipers. The gold looks good!

 

How good is the Kragen Paint last? I am worry about chipping of the paint. Powder coating will be very durable compare to just paint it as long as they last on high heat. Anyone done that before?

My company always do powder coating and I can just throw them into the batch to get it done for free .

^ Well if you can get it done for free then just go with it. Otherwise DIY is just as great. Not everything at Kragens is shitty. The paint is specifically meant for high heat temps such as engine bay painting. It's not like the calipers are in the same position as say the front bumper where it's always constantly being hit by the weather and rocks/stones/bugs.

 

After I was done painting my calipers black, I photoshopped some red onto the MAZDA lettering and it looked fugly as hell........... Just leave it one color.........

 

I am just worry the paint will chips when you try to clean up the caliper. Just wondering how long did you paint your caliper and does the paint last?

I clean my car every week and same goes with the rims/calipers. Just use the sponge with soap and wash it normally like you would with the rims and it'll take off the dirt. Since it's black it's harder to see if it's dirty or not. But if you keep it cleaned every so often the dirt will come off more easily.

It took me nearly a whole afternoon and part of night. I was over a buddy's house and you know how it goes when you guys work on cars and can't stop ******* around. But that should give you a sense of time. Just make sure you sand it really good, I had a power drill with a fat wire brush at the end that I used to get into al the little cracks where I couldn't get with normal sand paper.

So far the paint is still on there and I haven't noticed any chips and it's been on there for what now, nearly a year or so? Maybe a little less than a year. But still the thing that I did was put on extra layers, since it's black it won't look that weird. The paint was pretty thick so make sure it's completely dry before you start touching it cuz I did that and it left my finger mark on it. If so just paint over it and it'll be fine. I'd give it a few days at least for it to completely dry. Plus if it ever starts to chip you can always repaint it.

red seems to be the timeless combination for a classic brake package if you asked me.
and on a red car you can't go wrong.
on darker cars I like the silver ones with polished lettering.
as for powdercoating standing up to the heat. it does pretty well. better than any paint I've seen but at the track the brake bust will grip right to it.
