water, fuel, and oil system recommendations for 20b
few questions:
what size oil cooling cores are you guys using for 20b with fd rotor housings? i'm running gt42rr for ~500-600whp'ish.
any recommendations on eletric water circulation pump for 20b? original pulley driven pump was taken out.
how loud are aeromotive a1000 fuel pumps? i'm looking to make around 500-600rwhp, but would like to avoid constant fuel pump buzzing if i can. my previous mechanic also thought of running two smaller pumps in parellel (one from each side of the fuel tank), but i hate to explore into uncharted territory for now. any advice would be much appreciated on a daily-driven-friendly fuel setup (with regulator & filter info if you may).

I run an Aeromotive Eliminator pump. Its mounted to the frame just behind the gas tank. I am using a lot of rubber mounting on it in an effort to quiet it down, but its still REALLY loud. The only time I don't hear it is when the silencer is out of my exhaust and I'm on throttle.
Since mine is just a weekend car, I didn't care if it was loud or not, but now I have changed my mind. I will swap over to a dual in-tank set-up when I get the time.
So, obviously my advice would be to do a dual in-tank setup with either two Denso units, or Bosch's, or whatever floats your boat. A lot of single turbo 2-rotor guys use these, so you can search on there for advise and a how-to.
I originally planned on using a CSR Electric water pump, but in the end I decided to just use the stock belt-driven wp. A word of advise is to not use the KGParts flange for the front iron, one of the inlets is half covered. The Meziere unit (one inlet/one outlet) is the best one I found, or you can just make your own.
As for oil coolers, these get hot, so the better you can cool them, the better.

I've got the exact same setup as paximus, and it is loud. I am thinking pretty seriously about putting it (the Aeromotive Eliminator) in the tank and seeing how much muffling that provides. If I ever get off my *** and do it, I'll be sure to report back.
RE: electric water pump. I'm also curious about the efficacy of an EWP on a 20B. I've not heard of anyone running such a setup or that has any experience with such a setup. Anyone that could share any information here would be greatly appreciated.
RE: oil coolers. If you're going custom, might as well go as big as possible. The more heat you can reject the better off you'll be.

I am using the A1000 external, and as others mentioned above, it is ******* loud. Mine is a racecar so it doesn't really matter, but for street use there's no way in hell I could run one.
Regarding oil cooling, I am using an 18x11x2" Setrab as well as a smaller Earls cooler (don't know the dimensions, but I'd guess its about 10x6x2") in series and I am still getting oil temps as high as 230* on the racetrack. My ducting setup sucks, which might have something to do with it.

Anyone care to share any experiences/knowledge about existing (proven) setups on a 20B?
The Davies Craig EWP and controller seems like a nice setup in that the controller acts as a thermostat, but the flow (110L/min ~=~ 30 gal/min) seems low.
Meziere has a nice reputation and a 55 gal/min rating, but the integrated thermostat units are $$$.
CSR claims flow rates "from 35-70 gpm, depending on application" for their universal remote mount pump, but there are no provisions for a thermostat.
I've read/heard that cycling the pump, as is done with the EWP controller, shortens the lifespan of pumps not designed for that sort of use specifically, indicating that it should only be used with the Davies Craig EWP.
I guess what I'm curious to get a sense of (inviting all speculation and experience anyone has) is how important everyone thinks a thermostat is for a weekend car. We all know how hot these boosted 20Bs are; would having a thermostat on the oil only allow you to modulate the heat sufficiently?

In a highly modified Cosmo 20b the Davies Craig EWP worked well for me but the controller was crap. I ended up ditching it and controlling the pump with a pwm output from the Haltec this set up worked flawlessly. Just in the final stages of my new car build now and will be going the same way again.

Thank you kindly for sharing. That is good to hear that the pump worked well for you. Would you please share the basics of your car. You mentioned that it was highly modified, I assume single turbo, porting, etc. If you could provide some basics on your setup, it'd be a huge benefit for those of us trying to determine whether or not our setups would have similar cooling requirements.

20b Cosmo............. custom manifold GT45 turbo with a 1.22A/R hot side, custom 3inch intercooler and pipework, ported throttle body, mild streetport, fd exhaust sleeves, 5inch downpipe to custom twin 3inch straight through exhaust systems. Cooling used the stock Cosmo rad and EWP in addition to this there was a small rad in the turbo water cooling line between the turbo and main rad. No thermostat just controlled pump speed via the pwm output. Standard rad pressure cap 50:50 water antifreeze mix, stock Cosmo oil cooler set up. The car was set up for street but with a bit of drag racing chucked in.
I've no idea on power figures as tuning was done on the road.
The new motors going to be a twin turbo 20b PP larger Rad this time but a Craig Davies pump controlled via the Haltec again. If i'm going to have issues i'll find out in about a month when we start the new motor.
