Undertray with a 20B FD

Are people using a undertray with the Pettit subframe? I don't have one and it's over 100 degrees everyday here in Vegas. I need to get one. Any suggestions? Thanks.

I don't have the Pettit Subframe, but I am using an undertray with my 20B setup. You should DEFINITELY get an undertray if you don't already have one.

I'm not too familiar with the Pettit set-up, but if you can't get any of the pre-made unndertrays to work, contact a metal shop and they should easily be able to make you one.

I'm also running a Greddy FMIC.

Re Metal: I don't have a good enough answer to give you regarding that. Plastic undertrays are usually quite thin so I would suggest getting something replicated in metal with a similar thickness. Probably 1/2" or less thickness, but that's just an estimate and rough guess.

One of my buddies made his own in metal as well. If you'd like I could contact him and find out how thick his was? Let me know....

Hey Mr. G,

You can use any material including some acrylic/plastic type stuff. McMaster Carr has some good stuff cheap. Look under Raw Materials > Plastics > Sheets, Bars... > then look at Acrylic and Garolite.

I'm contemplating going that route when a friend and I are done with our v-mount kits.

Alternatively, Shine Auto Project has one for the FD that they sell for about $150.

From the other Mr. G.

That's why I said it was a very rough guess/estimate. You're the metal guy, not me .

^Pettit claims the 20B conversion works better without the undertray but I don't buy it. Would have saved me from my recent Nutria rat incident also I'm going to make one for my car when I get it back. Was going to go the sheetmetal route, something thin. Am going to take some cardboard and fab it up.

^ I can't believe Cam would even say that. The main purpose for the under tray is to help flow the incomming air through the radiator.

fwiw, plastic, acrylic, garolite is a bit more flexible than metal so it will fare better if you happen to hit or tap something like a parking lot curb or a driveway ramp.

Yes, they removed mine with the conversion. I'm going to put it back though. Just makes sense for airflow.
