Smart coil bracket?

Hello, I’m gonna be using smart coils on my 20b, and I was wondering if anyone had recommendations for a bracket for them? Prefer to keep them under the UIM. Thanks for any help!

i used LS coils on mine, and i just went to GM and bought a bracket, and then made some little dowels to double stack them, maybe something like that would work?

I had dcbillets in australia make me a custom set. Problem is you run into clearance issues if you use the excessive LIM and 20b UIM.

I am using a FFE hall trigger kit and so I can use the CAS location as my oil fill and the old oil fill location as my vent to catch can.

Hope this helps.

i like that, I might look into that as well. I’m just using stock low and upper intake. Thanks!

Hey, I'm headed down this route as well, and will be machining custom mounts. If your'e interested I can make a few extra. They'll likely look similar to what Aarkaah had posted, but with a brace for the upper bolts as well.

I would be interested in seeing your final solution. For me the greatest issue was the clearance one the shortened lim was used. Especially under the iac.

I'm happy to share the final design for everyone to use once I've got it the design finalaized. I'm a little less space constrained, as I'm planning on using the stock LIM atthe moment, so my design will likely reflect that. How much lower is your LIM than stock?

it’s the Excessive LiM. So 1 1/2″ (38mm) shorter than stock.

Got started on the design last night. As part of the process I'm 3d printing the coils and thought others might appreciate the model as well:

OK, so these brackets side mount the AEM coils only? I'm using the LS type coils, does anyone make a side mount for them?

LS coil mount arrangement

I;d like a mount that swings my LS coils down the side over the plugs somehow...I have clearance issues.

well, my mounts are going to be specific for the AEM coils.

I can see how clearance is an issue with the excessive manifold. Especially on the rear coil packs. I've got a rough concept together for my mounts. I've got it all crammed in there with the factory oil fill tube, but I did have to chop off the little support brace that was dangling off it.

Space is a bit tight near the dashpot, but not terrible

Also minorly annoying that each bracket is unique with my design. so I'll need to fabricate 3 separate brackets. Little tight to the oil filter too, but I could always use a relocation kit to move the filter.

Once I finalize the design, i'll make these files publicly available and possibly machine a few sets.

that’s awesome man! Good work. I’d be interested in a set if you get it finalized, some of the other brackets out there require a remote oil filter, which I was trying not to do for the moment. Keep up the good work

mine was in an FC, and i bolted the thing to the frame rail. right across from the plugs, the LS wires fit fine

Sounds like a good idea, don't mount them on the engine at all.......

i'd post a pic but it was so long ago i'm not sure how to upload a silver nitrate....

i for sure bought an LS1 oil bracket from GM (it was $18), and made little dowels to double stack the coils, and also for sure didn't drill any holes in the car. so it was close to bolting in.

have you had failures with the coils mounted on the engine?

looking good. I wish they were mounted further towards the side of the motor though because apart from the heat concern, there is also a clearance issue under the throttle body and IAC valve(Especially if you use the excessive UIM).

but love your work. Nonetheless.

Thanks. Yeah, certainly wont work with the excessive LIM, but should have clearance with the stock manifolds/TB. Guess i'm not super worried about heat. Lots of motors mount the coils directly on the block/under the manifolds including the FD and RX8.

if they work nicely wanna sell a set 😅 RPM’s website doesn’t work, can’t order from them, and they arent reliable enough to call and place an order. DC Billet isn’t shipping to the states at the moment. So I’m not sure if anything else
