Abiex - Thanks for the link.

Mirabile - Would you mind telling the cost for that thing? Is it custom-fabricated for one, specific make and model of turbo, or is it supposed to work with several?

They can make them in different flange sizes. It fits a pretty large turbo, GT42R. I think it is around 1600 or so, and mine is powder coated on the outside and ceramic coated on the inside.

wow...for $1600 you could buy a used TIG welder, several instruction manuals, and enough mandrel bends and flanges to make 5 manifolds.

mine cost me about $150, including header wrap, but i already had the welder, and the runners arent equal length. for 200 and a significant amount more work it could have been equal length.

as far as what turbo will fit...for the 20b there are only really 2 sizes to consider: T4 and T6 flanges. either one will work, and T6 is more suitable for big turbos at high power, but there are extremely more turbos available with t4 inlets, so thats what I went with. These are the standard garret flanges, and will work with any garret style turbo. There are also other flange styles like some of the holsets and stuff, but ive never seen any of them used for a 3 rotor.

Should have cermaic coated the outside too. The outside powdercoating will burn off and look like *** even with the ceramic coating on the inside. If the coater told you otherwise, he is not aware of how much heat turbo rotories throw out.

I know this wasn't aimed at us, but we use 321SS heavy wall, .105-.120" wall.

Not only is that wall thickness extremely hard to find, but its also very expensive.

Burns lists .065" wall 321SS u bends at $69.00 a piece, the thickness we use is about 2x that price...

i wasnt suggesting that yours was a ripoff or anything, i think its a fair price for the amount of fab work that goes into one. maybe a little steep, but not too bad.
You cant argue with the fact that a VERY high percentage of the cost is markup and fabrication tho. If you have the time and equipment to do it yourself, or the willingness to learn, it can be extremely cheaper. I wouldnt even think about selling the manifold I made to someone else, but it Does work well, and it was 1/10th of the cost.

Aspec said they have done it before. I trust their judgement.

As for the manifold maker for $150, props to you, go into business of making manifolds, I am sure it would do you well. I would love to see a few pictures of it.
I must admit I am surprised as major turbo manufacturers like Greddy and Garret are unable to make manifolds for 13Bs below around $700...

like i said, theres no way you could make money doing that. thats what it actually cost me, for stainless and welding wire and gas, and a few minutes of cnc waterjet time, maybe some waferdiscs. That doesnt count the time it took me to fit all the pipes and weld it all together. I'm not suggesting that anyone should be selling these for a price like that. I think it should bea possible to sell a quality product for under a grand, but only if you made them in batches.

All im trying to say is that for the average guy without an extra $1500 to spend on a custom manifold, its more cost effective and way more fulfilling to buy equipment and learn to make this kind of stuff yourself.

I dont have any decent pics of it, I made it in several half hour sittings after work this summer, so it was always dark by the time i got done. Here are a couple real crappy shots at varying stages of completion. I know that this isnt perfect. If i were to do it again, I'd use a thicker engine flange and spend the extra time for equal length runners, but it does work, the car runs nice and makes good power. Maybe some time i'll have time to build a better one, but ive got way too many other fish to fry lately. I do think I could do just about exactly what I want for around $200.

Nice work. I wouldnt find it more fulfilling to do it myself though. I have no doubt if I spent the time eventually I could make it, but to be honest, the opportunity cost of my attempting to make parts, in the time alloted would not be worth it overall. I am glad you have the time and what not to do so, and would love to see pics sometime.

? Why are you building a 20. If you have a mani problem at this price, either have pat make you one, make one yourself, or suck it up
