I'm back in the rotary world after 25+ years. I have a project underway involving a short shaft 3 rotor in an AE86.
I actually owned this car whilst in college and back then it had a street ported 12A installed. I sold it in 1995 and have managed to just recently re acquire the car. Its in pretty ruff shape (no powertrain, no interior, no suspension), basically just a crappy shell. But the sentimental value to me, makes the restoration worth my while.
I have always wanted a 3 rotor engine, and decided to use that motor as the basis of this car. As this will be a road legal, basically Sunday driving car, it has to have all the amenities. Air con, stereo, power windows and steering, etc.
The engine will be naturally aspirated, and no more than 300whp. I am thinking a streetport would be adequate. I have acquired second hand a brand new two piece short eccentric (Presumably from New Zealand) along with a new 6 port center plate with the center bearing modification done. In addition to the above, a used set of FD rotor housings, plates, and NA 9.7:1 rotors.
For the rest of the driveline I am considering a ~2011 RX8 six speed, and perhaps a GSL-SE rear end. Any advice, suggestions or ideas would be welcome. Except those telling me to go build/buy a 13B turbo or genuine 20B
