The rising of a new 20B KING.

25-June-05 at Puerto Rico International Speedway.

Everyones jaw droped when the new project of Humberto Cruz, the radical Mazda RX8 "MAJOR LEAGUE" made its FIRST 1/4 mile pass of 7.00 ET at 199MPH.
Talk about potential! This is it's first 1/4 pass! This guy may become the quickest 20B in the world. He followed this pass with two more 7.00ET
The car is being programed by Jose Torres Siguel Dynojet.

Current 20B 1/4 mile records:

1. Abel Ibarra RX8: 6.76 @ 204MPH US
2. Siguel Racing RX7: 6.89 @ 199MPH Puerto Rico
3. Abel Ibarra RX7: 6.95 @ 195MPH US
4. Archie Kajewski Chev Beretta: 6.99 @ 201MPH Australia
5. Rocky Rehayem MX-6: 7.04 @ 195MPH Australia
6. Nibo Racing RX7: 7.25 @ 189MPH Puerto Rico
7. Bill Nabhan RX-7: 7.26 @ 194MPH Australia
8. Carlos Montano MX-6: 7.30 @ 188MPH US
9. Joe Signorelli RX-7: 7.33 @ 186MPH Australia

A big thanks to Mazda for production of the JC Cosmo. Without the 20B engine from this high spec tourer, amazing things like this would not be possible.

7.00@199 for the 1st pass is truly the sign of some serious potential

An even bigger thanks that it fits so nicely in the FC with little modification to the bay...thank you Mazda!

Glad I don't have to deal with a 20B FD... whew...

That's not a factory 20B. It's a custom 3 Rotor.

That's correct but most people don't know that. Here's the builder http://www.kiwi-re.com/ I like the way they use two center intermediate housings making the motor shorter. I'm assuming that would help in keeping the eccentric shaft from flexing seeing the custom eccentric shaft would be shorter.

OK, its a precision engineering short block then.

Kiwi RE just sell some of them some times.

Geoff Bruce at Precision engineering in Auckland, NZ has been building the 3-rotor kits for some years now.

I heard the reason why he uses the 13B centre plates was to eliminate the use of any 20B parts that will be hard to find in years to come.

Plus, making the shaft a few cm shorter is an added benifit.

I hear he is using 3 turbos and Peripheral port engine with custom 13B 3rotor and also his car is an Amercian built chassis.

Dave I think Jeff has been building the 3 rotor kits long befor 20Bs were available on the 2nd hand market, I know when I was about 17 (12 years ago now) there was a 12a based 3 rotor j port racing at the strip here in NZ and I am told it was one of his first kits so the 20b intrmediate housing wouldnt have been a consideration then I wouldnt think.

Maybe Chevy Cavalier.... Don Ness PRO-STOCK builder extrodinaire (Chassis and body parts) I'm specualting used some of his (PRO-STOCK) Cavalier experience in the front end and roof lines of this RX-8 body. The car also has a slighty little shorter wheelbase, than the Flaco Racing RX-8. Don knows his sh%t.

I'm sure the budget # of $200K is conservative, but I'm sure true.

I don't think you are an unbiased person, not a good thing for somebody running a news website. For example, care to elaborate on an aproximate cost of Flaco's FD? Rx8's? Payroll? season budget?

Hey... I wasn't making that number up.. it came from "RoTaRyBoYz" in this same string above, he says from rumors circulating at E-Town. see below...

And the reason that I was stating that I don't doubt the dollar figure, is because I know how much it cost to build a quality car like the ML RX-8, and $200K is in the ball bark... Don Ness chassis/body = $150+ a killer race motor from Alec = $60+... I'm not saying that this is what ML paid, but it's some general #'s for information. Feel free to call and ask. Again, not hate'n on ML, just letting everyone know that this type of speed cost.

To build only:
Flaco's R-100 = $28K
Flaco's FD = $40k
Flaco's Rx8's = $ 140k

To run the last few full seasons:
per season budget = $250k <spent $300k per season> engines, equipment, travel, team, crew, truck, insurance, etc... no real money left for much serious testing or R&D

Payroll = ?? (don't know what Abel paid himself exactly, but it wasn't much)

On me and RN.COM.. it's not like I work for the New York times, or if I even get paid to do it... and I don't know why you say I'm being biased... I've only tried to state facts.

Listen... I'd love to report more on the PR scene and the going-ons, but we don't get much feed back from PR. Anyone can even send me stuff in espanol if wanted. We've never hated on any rotary news or accomplishments. Rabule does a great job reporting the PR scene, and we like to also, but we don't have a good contact there.

I say 200K could be about right

Ness is top of the field chassis builder
and with the reputation comes the $$$$$$ he charges
But the result is awesome! look how straight that car goes down the track

Clutch tunning is still a black art in the rotary community
once someone gets it down
cars will start to fly!

TiTan
AEM
etc
hire Pro stock clutch tuners

fwiw, I think Bern is doing a good job of being unbiased. Seems like KNONFS has something to prove for some reason....
