i hate my clutch!

i have an act extreme (the big one) pressure plate, and a 6 puck unsprung disc. its the only one i could find torque specs on (468lbs/ft). so i dont mind high pedal effort or a copper disc, but right now i have both and its not cool.

what is out there that will hold the torque, and either be low pedal effort, or non copper disc?

thanks
mike

I have the same pressure plate as you, but I picked up a sprung clutch disc from Clutchnet. Its a 6-puck design and it engages and disengages very nicely. I've only driven my car down the driveway and back a few times, but this feels very similar to my "ACT street strip clutch" that I had on there before.

I plan on running this until I get the real transmission and a big turbo... well, I first have to get the car road worthy. I'll give someone $10 to come finish my car.

Mariah used the CFDF on their 20B, which is extremely soft yet holds well. Other than that, I think you will need a 2-disk clutch (Quarter Master, Tilton, OS Giken, etc.).

On my car, the CFDF lasted about 20 days. YMMV

I have the ACT clutch. The good news: It doesn't slip. The bad news: It doesn't slip--ever. There are times (slow start, in traffice, from a dead stop) when a little slippage is desirable. With a lot of practice, it is possible to finesse the clutch, so that first gear starts aren't traumatic. Once past first gear, just shift fast and smooth and smile a lot.

I don't think you need an insane dual disc clutch for your application. You're running stock ports and stock turbos with a pretty restrictive exhaust. I would just pick up the clutchnet disc that I mentioned above... its $155. If you don't like it, you can easily sell it or put it in another one of your cars.

If you are planning on putting a freer flowing exhaust, a single turbo and porting the engine (read: BIG POWER), then yes, an OS Giken triple disc clutch would be my suggestion.

Yes, that happens if it is not installed correctly. Many people on this forum have blown their CFDF in a few days with their mostly-stock 13BT's. I think that Centerforce has some human factors engineering issues to deal with on this product.

I don't know what the problem is, but a lot of RX-7 owners have trouble with the install. It probably is the weights, because that's really the only difference between it and other clutches as far as I can tell. The CFDF on my old TII is still going on strong after over 3 years.

Sorry Mike, but you have to bite down and get a multi-disc clutch.
