how old is your motor?

so i was looking at the alternator harness from my 20b and it had a date code on the wire, 1990. them i went and looked at the 13b cosmo we are putting in the other fc and it had 1991 on it. so that puts my motor about late 89 to early 91.

Um, my alternator harness is from a Discount Auto Parts test set, LOL.

Like most people, my engine didn't come with the wiring, but I know that it's from a Series I JC Cosmo because of the intake.

Mine is less than a week old

The engine should be here today, or tomorrow at the latest... I'll check the date.

Maybe we need to start a 20B engine registry?
I know my 20B is serial number "555" - boy, should've been installed in a Subaru, huh?

The engine came with no harness, since this was jimlab's old engine, and he took almost everything apart short of the short block.

Ours is a 1991, I know this as its still in the car it came in. I think our other engine is also 91 too (we took that out of the car it came in also).

Not to sound like a nubie, but where is the serial number? I can't find one on mine.

I noticed Atkins actually grinds the numbers off the rotor housings. This is right near the '20B' on the oil galley. Is this where the seriel number is located? If so, I wonder why they would do that.

most motors have the number on the front steel right under the alternator, i havent really looked at the 20b, cause i have no way to reference the engine number with anything. with a 2 rotor us car, mazdausa knows the engine number, so you could match them, if anyone cares

I believe that the numbers stamped on the housings are there from when they were "factory rebuilt" and are build numbers. Im led to believe that most of the series 1 engines had the eccentric shafts replaced - hence the rebuilds & numbers stamped on the housings.............correct me if im wrong.

The harness literally crumbled before my eyes it was in such bad shape, what there was of it. It looked like they had just hacked it to pull the engine quickly, and what was left was so brittle that even trying to unplug the fasteners proved impossible without breaking something.

ok i just looked at mine, it is stamped 246 on all of the steels. like they or someone rebuilt it. the wierd thing, is i can almost gar-on-tee that its never been apart before. it could be they built the 20b's in a seperate section of the factory. i've read how real ferarris are like that. every part of the body has the last four of the vin stamped or written on it.

I've herd the s/n is stamped on the front iron right under where the alt sits. On my 13b-re it has a "E084025" stamped there.
