I've been reading the thread. I too had a Liberty built FD trans. Paul is a great guy. I kept breaking my trans also..... snapped the input shaft 2 times, and lost 3rd gears 2 times. I have a 300m output shaft from my last trans that broke 3rd gear if anyone wants to buy it. Paul has a hard time getting them now.
I went with the T56 and I love it. The gear ratios are much better than stock. Many people have done it now so it is easier to get help. I would be happy to tell you my setup. The 350/370 path is much less common and probably more expensive.

Correct me if I am wrong Vincent but you have your 20B where the UIM is about 6 inches away from the firewall correct? This allows you to mount the bell housing and adaptor plate with no issue because you have space in the engine bay. I would love a t56, but my UIM is 1 inch away from the firewall so you can imagine the stock tranny clears the around the top of the tunnel where the bell housing is about 1/4 of an inch so there is no way I can fit a t56 unless I cut the tunnel.

Also (remember correct me If I am wrong) you have a hyper exedy triple carbon clutch which has tremendous snap bite and is not forgiving which might have contributed to the braking of your input shaft. Also do you have à chromoly input shaft like the output?

Thank you for your insights!

Sounds like you know my car better than me. My trans is in the stock location and the T56 is a tight squeeze but it fits, I had to trim a few tabs off the T56. Paul at Liberty said my clutch was likely the culprit on the input shaft as he didn't see those break often. I did go with the 300M output shaft but he didn't have a solution for the input shaft. I ultimately changed my clutch when I changed to the T56. I tried to make the Liberty work and different setups might work but I just couldn't do it. I think someone earlier commented about 3rd gear breaking and that happened to me several times. I do believe it is case flex. The guy at OS Giken even said he didn't think his gears in an FD case would work with high hp. The t56 swap wasn't as expensive as I thought it would be. I did it myself and I kind of enjoyed the challenge of making it work. I wasn't too bad.

You should do a write up. There isn't an all in one write with parts sources in a single post. It'd be great to avoid piecing it together from multiple threads.

Stay tuned as I'm currently in the fitment stages of installing a CTS-V t56 in my 20b fd that moved back 5-1/2". It's actually in the car now as we speak but I need to massage the tranny tunnel a little bit to give it some wiggle room. I pulled my engine so I can fix some more intake leaks that have popped up recently and thought why not try an fit this tranny while I'm at it. Now that I know it will fit, I'll do the full conversion in the summer.

I know what you mean. Lol! I have oil leaks to fix also. If I was rocking the 20b lim, I wouldn't have a problem getting to that back upper bolt on the rear plate with my engine moved back. My own custom fabbed from scratch intake takes up a bit of room near the firewall. Plus having the engine out allows me to do a nice inspection of everything.
