could too much oil be bad?
I'm in a difficult situation. Engine's mounted/running, but I can't get to the dipstick because the engine sits too far into the tranny tunnel. I also have custom oil pan built, so I have NOOO idea what my oil level is.
I do have a good oil pressure gauge, and it's reading 60psi at idle and over 100psi at anything over 3000rpm. I have about 9qt's of oil in it. This is a complete guess.
I left the oil fill tube open, so there should be no pressure building up in the oil pan.
this brings to my question... is there such thing as too much oil? what could be the harm if the pan is completely vented?
thanks in advance!

to much pressure can hurt by sqeezing out oil from the bearings at high rpm but yours doesnt sound that excessive , as far as too much volume there is no crank to airiate the oil so you shuld be fine tho your pcv might get clogged easily, i definately wouldnt leave the filler tube open. extended it and add the same length to the dipstick

1st of all what kind of motor? stock FD's 13b normally take just 4qts with a drain and fill. It also depends on wheather your running dry sump, larger oil pan, etc....too much variables..
20b about 6qts.....
20b about 6qts.....

Depending on how much bigger your oil pan is, the custom unit. But 9 quarts with dual oil coolers wont be to much ever the full line.
Cap the dip stick and vent from the oil filler neck. If you can grab a aluminum filler rod for a TIG welder and use that for a reference to how much oil you have.
Hope that makes sense.
