I'm doing a "homebuilt" 20b car right now. Still in the works but it's coming along slowly.

Start on page 22 of my build thread. There is a lot of discussion on how it can be done, what's needed, what things are going to cost...
https://www.rx7club.com/build-thread...951172/page22/

Cheers.

I'm $6000 down and still haven't broken down the motor yet... I've already got like $1500 allocated for just rotor and housing work (not including rebuild work)

plan on dropping at least $10k even if you do it all yourself and on the cheap side, turbos aren't cheap, nor is the engine which generally runs about $6k just to get a questionable block.

I don't get it. If you are not a "neebie" to mechanic work then it will be quite obvious what you need to accomplish for your particular application. None of my mechanics needed me to tell them what to do. All I had to do was give them the basic idea of what I wanted to accomplish and then they figured out how to accomplish that mechanically. This is what it is to be a mechanic. You did not even state the purpose of your build, or even which car you have, which any real mechanic would realize is pivotal to the discussion. Therefore, you are either lying or you are amazingly incompetent and delusional. Either way I don't think that this is the best project for you. I recommend that you take your meds and start with an easier project like replacing the air filter or spark plugs. Contrary to what you may think, this is probably the most useful information you have ever received.

most people who know how to do the swap are the first to give a handful of **** for asking the question. i try to look at it from the fence, since you won't know if the engine will fit without chopping the car into pieces to try and shove it in there from the start.

yes it will fit but you will need to redo the bracing in the front of the car and do some creative movement of parts like the radiator, intercooler and condenser. then there is custom engine mount brackets, custom exhaust, upgraded fuel system, turbo choice, engine management choice, etc, etc, etc.

it is a big project, probably more than you will expect. figuring out all the little idiosynracies like shortening the lower manifold so that the upper clears everything, disassembling the block without a $1k special tool, setting up the car to run an additional rotor, etc.

Agreed 100% LOL!!!

Have 20k ready and you should be ok . It can be done cheaper, but then your buying cheap/inferior stuff. Things you can quickly save a few thousand on would be turbo (cheapy journal bearing) and ECU (simple Microtech).

If your serious about this project, buy the engine 1st as they are in very VERY short supply.

I fabbed about half myself and bought the Defined kit for the mounting/accessories and I'm in for about $15K after computer, engine (no build) and the rest that's 20B specific.

Remember that your project goes as far as your willing to take it. If your going to do this swap remember that when things look like they are done they are not. on the other side, when the stars align and all the details are taken care of this swap is one of the best if not the sickest for an rx car. Tip.. learn how to TIG and also have the proper tools..
