20b drive ability

While I understand many people don't go 20b with drive ability in mind but perhaps they rather have a certain power goal in mind. I am mildly entertaining the idea of going to a 3 rotor.

With so many threads/build ups on these conversions many of them seem to focus on the numbers. But what I want to know is how do these cars drive off boost. What are the manners like a turbo 20b? I would be hoping to achieve 600-700 hp. This seems to be in line with many 20 setups depending on boost and so on.

I currently have a single turbo fd with a 500r. Aside from the extra power does the engine conversion change the feel, and drive ability much?

Also with that much power would it need to have a roll cage to help keep the torque from twisting the car?

Thanks

Power delivery is very different, 20b just makes so much power offboost/transtion, so the power is more linear even with large turbos. Where with the 13B, there's more more of a on/off feel as the turbo gets into its sweet spot. Just my own experience.

The 20B makes great low end torque and pulls like a bat out of hell when you want it to. I make around 700 WHP but drive the car at around 525 WHP (12 PSI) and it's great fun. I have fine tuned my Greddy Prospec II boost controller to "bleed" in the power so I don't spin the rear end as much as I used to.

Think of the 20B as like a V8, more torque and low end power and no need to spin it up to 4,500 RPMs.

The off boost drivability of a single turbo 13b vs single turbo 20b is night and day. You can have a ton of fun off boost with a 20b. I know I do and I'm Na.

This is not mild entertainment. It's expensive entertainment, but it can be wildly entertaining.

David's "like a V8" remark is spot on. One time, I had a hose come loose from the intercooler, so I wasn't getting boost. Driving the car around town for a few days, I didn't even notice until I went out on the freeway and decided to pass another car. It was a mild-mannered (but capable) pass rather than the usual rocket-ship ride.

One owner of a modified (single-turbo) 3rd gen who drove mine said, "My car seems to have the same power, but your car doesn't feel like it's working as hard to get the same results."

No.

I will drive my car on 2-3 hour trips. I think my 20b single turbo drives more like a twin turbo 13b because of the low end tq. I think the driveability is much better than a 13b single.
