It is the most popular non overdrive tranny. It was used for many years IE 65-84ish with small block chevys. Very common!!

I don't know what I was thinking about with a clutch for a turbo 350 tranny. I knew it was an automatic I just wasn't thinking.

I dunno what you guys are planning to do with your 20B's, but anyhing running over 600hp is going to be a pain in the *** for any drivetrain to handle.

I've heard of JZA80 transmission swaps, but these things are not exactly cheap or easy to find.

Domestic transmissions are easy to find, but most of them are not built to withstand this kinda power, with the exception of the Chevy autos.

Anyone know a manual trans that can reliably handle over 600hp?
Maybe Dodge Viper?

Drag racing is going to stress the drivetrain the most.
Street use will not, and you can probably use the stock RX-7 drivetrain parts.
We're using our 20B for drift competition, and this does not stress the drivetrain either so we're not worried about drivetrain breakage.

Hell if cost were not a factor, I wouldn't mind having one of those newer Mercedes Benz 7 speed autos for my 20b. I think they are rated for over 700lbs of torque from their new turbo charged v12. That would be the ****.

Maybe I'm wrong but isn't the Turbo 350 tranny the one used in LS/LT-1 cars? So wouldn't it be in the Z06?

Either way, I can get a turbo 350 tranny for $300 and I'd honestly rather spend $300 for the piece of mind.

I can't confirm this, but it's still an auto.

The "Chevy Turbo 350" and "Chevy Turbo 400" are short for Chevy Turbo Hydramatic transmission.
Hydramatic...automatic...
