Yes, you can use any 13b tranny. You will kill the rx8 tranny in about an hour. The FD tranny will last more like a week. The TII 5 speed will last a long time unless you run slicks or try to shift mad qwick.
The costs come mostly from the ECU and turbo, as well as subframe and mounting. All this stuff has to be high end and/or custom to work on the 20B. A turbo manifold alone is over a G.
If youre a fabricator, you can make most of the expensive stuff yourself. I finished my 20B swap in the TII for around $7500, but I spent a lot of time and made most of the parts myself. I am also an engineer and mechanic/fabricator, so I'm better at that stuff than most.
If you can't fab, the best answer is unless you want more than 600whp, or are just into the 'cool' factor, youre better off with a built 13B. You can get a KILLER 13B setup built for half what you would pay for a 20B swap.
