20B 240z , why not?

Ok, so far ive never been able to find a 20b into a 240z swap. This car seems like it would be a good canidate for a crazy project because...

No smog issues
TONS of engine bay space
Have seen 240z's with Supercharged V8s in em, so why not 20b?

Aside from the time and cost factors, why not think about this kind of project car? Wide body, fat tires and suspension, full cage.......you get the idea..

Are 240's hard to make handle well? Hard car to work with? Ive never been in one so i dont know the dynamics of the car. I love 510 rotary swaps, but 240z with a 20b would just be over the top.

Lets here input! (and no, i dont care that its not a nissan motor)

i'll jump in here, basically you want all the hassle and expense of a totally custom 20b swap AND to be dealing with the restoration of a rusting 30 year old japanese car at the same time? Do you have to whip yourself at night to go to sleep? you must really like punishing yourself. =)

all joking aside, you'd really have to make sure that not only is the chassis WORTH putting tens of thousands of dollars of drivetrain into, but also that its not going to twist itself apart with the added horsepower. Even a nicely kept stock bodied 240z is pretty flexy by todays standards. That and you're talking about outdated suspension and braking components and a rear that doesn't really like alot of power. That said, i love classic Z's, i love what can be done with the L series motors and i'd be interested to see what can be done with swapping motors and such. Would i be willing to undertake a project like that? NOPE

Thats fine, thats why i asked. I dont know much about those cars, all i know is that i want to do a 20b project and i need to find a car (thats smog exempt) to put it in. Ive seen pics of done up 240s and they look cool, so i though "hey, why not 20b!". Any other suggestions for pre-1975 cars that would be good donors for 20bs? Or should i just stay with an rx7 and have 2 motors (smog and 20b) and keep with current technology?

HAHAHAHA, whip yourself to go sleep, thats good

Cobra kit car with supercharged 20B... yummy. That may exempt depending upon your state vehicle registration requirements for registering a privately-built car. Be a heck of a lot cheaper than trying to restore something as well since you're starting with a kit.

Kit - $25K
Paint - $5K
Driveline - Use brand new mustang cobra components for instance - $5K
Tires/wheels - $4K
ECU, electrical, fuel, etc, misc. - $10K
Motor/supercharger - $5K

$54K for a fully built extremely lightweight car with my budgeting on the low to medium side depending upon how frugal you are you "could" cut that by 30-40%.

Just my thought on that idear...

Cool idea, although just too much money. I have a hard time believing building a 240z with a 20B would cost that much. A decent "mostly restored" 240 can be found here and there for 8k with no motor. I do see you point though. Then again, people put rotaries in 510s as well and those take $$ and time to restore/build. Maybe just go 20B in a 510 so as to have a crazy *** car like that 20B RX2 that posted in this area ;-) (which is such a cool car)....

Honestly, if you have a shop that you can fab the job at, I'd say go for it. I always loved the look of the 240z, and the no emissions testing just goes to help its status in my book! Oh, and if you do, make sure to go with a nice large metal flake daytona blue.
