Yeee Haaa! My '79 RX-7 passed CA smog test!!!

OK. So what's the big deal?

Well, thanks to the wealth of RX-7 information at this site and owner horror stories, my fingernails were bit back to the roots going into this test. I thought my RX didn't have a snowball's chance in hell to pass CA emissions test.

And thanks to that same information and owner feedback, I did the following things, which I believe helped her pass:

1.) Ran car hard on the highway at 70 to 85 mph for about 15 minutes, mostly in 4th gear (5-speed).
2.) Kept car running all the way up to test time.
3.) Put some STP gas treatment in the gas tank
4.) Used up all of the Wisconsin gas I had in the tank, refilled it with Calif. gas.
5.) Had a tune-up: oil change, oil filter change, transmission, check, new brakes, new spark plugs, new air filter, even a new alternator.
6.) Didn't make any modifications to the exhaust or engine.

Thanks to all for your help and advice on this!!
Looking forward to many miles in this little machine.

Will try to post some pics of my car this weekend when I get time.

P.S. Smog check guy freaked out when I said the car didn't have a cat, but a thermal reactor.

"What? A nuclear reactor?" he asked.

Does your '79 have A/C and if so, are you satisfied with A/C's performance ?
