XR4Ti for Trade

I am looking to trade my 1985 Merkur XR4Ti for a 1st Generation RX-7, specifically a GSL-SE if possible. The car is a 3 year project that has lost my interest. The motor is fresh, all top end seals replaced, fresh clutch, Cosworth sway bars, etc...I have pictures for any SERIOUSLY interested parties.

Well I'm not SERIOUSLY interested in buying it but I'd still like to see the pictures. Those XR4Ti's are pretty cool IMO.

Where can I get more info on Merkurs? Every one I've seen around here looks kinda vaguely like an Escort...

I don't know much about XR4Tis, but I think they're pretty coveted. So I'd assume you'd be able to sell yours and then have enough to buy a car and have some money left over? It might be a lot of trouble though....

Good luck regardless!

I had a 1986 XR4TI. It was in the shop more than I drove it. Drive it a week...in the shop for a week. Drive it another week...in the shop for a week. At first it wasn't that way but after it hit the 100k point it was all downhill. I was doing the maintenance myself but it was still breaking all the time. Loved it when it ran and hated it when it broke.

although ive never owned a 2.3t powered car (that runs ) ive had 2 friends who have, and they seem to be pretty bulletproof motors. one of my friends was running 18psi of boost on the street with stock internals and never had a problem. me.. im cooking up a my own project from a 86 merk.. even though im going to get flamed..

You've got PM. Let me know.

On a side note, a rotary XR4Ti does sound interesting. I had never really given that a serious thought.

thats whats called a Sierra here in Europe. Some of them came with Cosworth 2.1l turbocharged engines. Quite a number of them in Norway, and many of them are quite powerful... 450hp at the flywheel is not uncommon...

Here is mine

The 2.3 in the merkurs is pretty much the same thing that came in the pintos. It has been around a long time, and can take a beating. I am running stock bottom end straight from a junkyard. Car is probably justa tad over 2700# with me in it (full interior, roll bar, and 8.8" ford rearend) and it went 121mph in the 1/4 on street rubber. So the motor can handle plenty for cheap.

Later
Randy

That's sweet!!!!

I should have been paying better attention to the picture earlier I guess.

How complicated of a swap is that? I have access to a free RX with a bad motor and drum brakes that would be a possible candidate.

E-mail or pm me with some more info if you don't mind.
