I think the easiest way to tell externally is where the shifter comes out , S1 shifter was forward. So if you have one to compare you should be able to tell. Don't quote me but the case is different too.

nothing to compare it to except the one that is in the car now (85)
i was going to swap tail shafts just in case , also so the 85 shifter will fit in it. but i think ill just find an older shifter that works. i dont wana tear into it if i dont have to.

Some how I dont think it will go staight in the shifter is a fair bit more forward (that is assuming it is not what ebay said it is) in the series one. Put a picture up and we will ID it.
