Well he got the year wrong.
I want it. My RX-7 will be stored during the winter. With that thing I can go where I want in the Snow here. :-)

Considering it's a 4x4 I doubt theres a transfer case that'll match up to a rotary.

Samurai have divorced transfer cases so any 2WD tranny will send power to the T-case and axles.Lots of people run rotaries in them because they are small and have twice+ the HP of the stock 1.3L 4 banger.Heres mine sporting an injected,150HP Chevy V-6.......

I imagine that he calls it an 88 because its an 88 Samurai chassis the body is sitting on and such,if it has an 88 Samurai engine,it would have to be smogged and certified as an 88.If he kept the 81-85 rotary engine, then it technically wouldnt be legal since that would be going backwards.A 2nd gen N/A 13B would be better suited for 4 wheeling anyways with its EFI and better torque curve.

Hes definately got some mods done to the chassis to make it work with a 1st gen body.
I just took some measurements and its about 15" difference in wheelbase between a 1st gen and a stock Samurai. The pics show a good match in wheelwells and tires,so he must have stretched the frame or is running custom coil springs on one or both axles.I cant see any shackles/leafpacks in the pics, and if he is running coils, its definately worth the asking price even if all you do is wheel the thing.
Looks like a very nice setup,I wish he had listed more specifics on the ad......

i live in new england and id so buy that for the summer. to bad its a fb and not a sa.

if it was a sa id make it looks just like my car so when i take my street car off the road for winter and drive that to work and people ask about it. i can just say yeah my car is a transformer i just hit a button and it turns in to this.

but id add a button so if some one dumb and says really or some thing i can hit the button and the transformer sound effect plays

Haha, thats actually a great idea....

Ive seen the yellow FB 4X4 but it looks a little butchered. This one looks amazing. I wonder how many people who have to put their 7s away in the winter think this thing is rad. Im guessing a high percentage.
Seeing this makes me really dread putting the 7s away in favour of my chevy nova... DAMN DO I WANT A 4X4 RX-7!!!!

Rally RX 7

In 1983 Rod Millen raced a 4x4 RX 7 in the SCCA rally series. It won 2 races and finished 2nd overall in the series.
He used a 626 transmission to drive the front wheels. I dont know the specifics of how it was set up. It only added 100lbs to the car and raised it only 3/4" with 300hp. It must've been really fun.

I saw a 2nd gen in Omaha, NE about 3 years ago, lifted a lil more with big mud tires on it... going the other way on the interstate.

He had a custom T-case built and ran 626 frontend components. He wasnt too far off the leader(Audi),he just needed a little more edge that couldnt be obtained with just RWD.
It was a one-off that he built himself and while it was impressive,it still wasnt enough to catch Buffum and the Audi.....too bad :-(
