would 12a irons work on a 13b

would 12a irons work in place of 13b irons??? just curious because i can get 13b hosings in good shape for cheap and could just use my 12a irons and get 13b rotors.

Yes, you can use 74-85 12a irons with 74-85 13b rotor housings.

Only if they are GSLSE housings or other pre 86 13B. 2nd gen and later housings have the water o-ring groves in the irons while all pre 86 have water o-rings grooves in the rotor housings.
