worked on the rx7 and now it dont start

ok so i did a carburetor kit on the rx7 i just got yesterday, and the car had been parked for over a year and a half

took out the gas in the engine, and started it up. it was running fine i let it run until the gas that was left in the lines after i syphoned it was burned

i then put new gasoline in it, and now the car wont start

it would turn but then it drains the battery

tried jump starting it but no dice

i think i need a battery cable for the car. the positive one is messed up a little i think its causing too much resistance to start it

tried cleaning it, cut it, and cleaned it but nope

anybody know?

will it be the positive cable?

So it doesnt turn over at all? Do you hear a click at all? You need to bust out the a multimeter and make sure your getting power to the starter before you replace anything. That means the positive line, and the trigger wire from the ignition switch.

This type of thing happened to me. If the engine turns over, the battery is fine. If you shut off the car before normal operating temp, engine will flood (exactally what I did once!). Try this: Take the spark plugs out, see if they are fouled. Now turn the engine over without the spark plugs in to get all the gunk out of the engine. Clean the plugs and replace. Now try starting it up again with a fully charged or jumped battery. My cheap, caveman style deflooding procedure worked for me. Tell me how it goes.

If it still has the original aluminum + cable, replace it with a nice new heavy duty copper one. They are marginal at best. Also check and clean your main engine ground (top left transmission to engine bolt).

how long did you crank and how much gas did you put in? you need more than 2 gallons once you drain the tank, trust me, i know. how long did you crank the engin for? maybe you didn't build up enough fuel pressure? are you getting gas and did you set your floats accordingly?
