Won't start, need new carb ASAP any suggestions?

WHAT'S THE BEST CARB FOR A STOCK 12A THAT NEEDS TO BE FAST AND STREETABLE?

Here's the deal, I've been pushing my poor little 82 RX7 across the street for NYC parking regs for a month, and finally have accepted that my carb is done. I've tried new wires/plugs/etc. - was a little better once running, but still got gradually harder to start. Don't think it's the fuel pump cuz the carb seems to be getting flooded, and the clear fuel filter's filling up when I turn her over. I was told that carb's dumping fuel by a mechanic but he said the injectors weren't squirting. She'll start with starting fluid but I can't keep her running no matter what combo I try of choke/pedal/nothing - the second the fluid burns off she makes this exasperated gasping noise and sadly dies on me

Any ideas are much appreciated since for a little car she's damn heavy!!! BTW I looked into rebuilt kits but they never have instructions. I don't know much about carbs, so figure I should just scrap the old one!!!

Thanks guys and Happy New Year!!!

i bought my rebuild kit from global auto parts and it came with instructions. also the haynes manual has a nicely detailed set of instructions for most of the rebuild.

i would get the haynes and the rebuild kit and give it a shot. do you know if the carb has been rebuilt before?

oh, and i would say that if you are bone stock just get another nikki if you have to buy a new carb. for stock applications they seem to do alright.

Doubt it's a rebuild

Looks like the only thing the prev owner(s) ever did was transform the body into a crazy Mad Max car, everything else seems to be stock. DOES IT SOUND LIKE THE CARB TO YOU? My bf has a 72 Chevelle he's rebuilt and he thinks so, but he doesn't know rotaries, and won't touch an import :P Thanks again!

have you checked your linkages? other than that i would say it is just your carb needing to be rebuilt. shouldn't take more than a few hours to rebuild it.

A carb is a carb, piston or rotary. If he thinks it's the carb and won't touch an import, find a new/real man.

Funny story, I have a cousin who grew up helping her dad fix cars. Her husband came home from work one day and found her sitting at the kitchen table, instead of the dinner he was expecting, the carb to his pickup, in pieces, was spread out all over the table, . He damn near blew a gasket and said what the hell are you doing.

Rebuilding your carb for you since you don't know how to do it, she replied. When she was done the truck ran better than anytime since he had had it. This is a true story, her dad was a damn good mechanic and taught her well.
