won't idle/ no power 13b

heres the quick story:

just bought the car, its been sitting for 2 years

it starts and i can drive it but the car won't idle and there is no power( as in engine power)

I put new gas in it and a new fuel filter cuz i seems to me like the engine isn't getting gas.

any suggestions for troubleshooting the fuel system?

maybe it could be something else

oh yeah its an 85 gsl-se so it has FI 13b

It could well be ignition. Do you have leading ignition?

It may be a problem with an injector. Reference this thread.

https://www.rx7club.com/1st-generation-specific-1979-1985-18/car-feels-slow-any-help-please-500110/

It talks to the leading ignition and the problem I had with an injector that failed for me.

Very possible that 1 injector is stuck shut. Send them out for cleaning and testing.

Try mixing up a 50-50 mix of Varsol and ATF. Remove the plugs, squirt about a teaspoon full in each plughole, spin it on the starter, let sit overnight, spin it again to get the excess mix out, get new sparkplugs and try starting it. The mix helps remove carbon and frees stuck rotor seals. I was told on this forum to get new injectors, well was not necessary as the mix cured my problem, lack of compression.

Would that also cause the car not to idle?

Yes, their would be enough fuel to start it and keep it running by throttle but not enough to let it idle and it would have no power. It just happened to me recently on my Se. Tested injectors on car, nothing out of one, sent them to witchhunters, Confirmed it during pretest.
Sent back clean, car ran perfect.

Now theres always a possibility that something else is going on. And as mbonner has stated he should also perform a compression test. That should always be one of the 1st tests.
Thanks for the reminder mbonner.

Just alittle tip referencing to injectors. I also had a one time got some aftermarket 680cc injectors from a guy on ebay. I sent them out for cleaning and testing, got them back and installed them. Engine would not idle but would take throttle and had power. I called up withc hunters and discussed this with him. He had me send them back. He retested them , but this time tested the flow at idle. Turned out they had way below specs at idle but perfect flow at open and had the correct resistance. They were from python and i have never heard anything good about their products.

You'r welcome, RX doctor. The 50/50 Varsol/ATF mix trick was passed on to me by a friend who works with Gen 1 and Gen 11 RX7s, he races them. He said if you find a RX with a frozen motor, buy it real cheap, remove sparkplugs, squirt lots of 50/50 mix in the plugholes, let it sit overnight, put it into first gear and tow it at 20 mph and pop the clutch. The mix will remove the carbon and it might work to free the motor. If it does not, well you have a parts car and have not lost too much.
