Talking A wonderful day, It's alive...

Is there not a better feeling than saving an rx from death? I bought my 7 last month for $400 off a guy who was going to send it to the wreckers because he lost his storage for the car. The car has barely run in the last 6 years and not at all in the last 2. The car would not start when I bought it. Thought the starter was gone or worse. Well it was a nice day today so I thought I would go out and take the starter off to inspect it. Turns out the cables were loose on the starter so with a new battery and a little tightening I get in the old 84 and she started right up. It smoked for about 2 minuts but after that no smoke and it idled perfect. This is with old gas, really old plugs and oil. Tomorrow its change the oil and other fluids and take her around the block. Another 84 is saved from the crusher. Oh, I looked underneath and no holes anywhere and the body is pretty much rust free.

I did this once. I found an SA in the paper for $500 and when I went to look at it, The owner said the motor was seized up. After tinkering with it for about a minute or so I determined that the motor was in fact not siezed so I said okay done deal. I towed the car home and after about a half hour I determined the starter was toast. I managed to take apart the starter and found out the armature was so gunked up with oil and road debris it wouldn't even turn. So I took about a can of wd-40 and cleaned it all up reassembled it and it cranked up first try, lol. The Previous owner saw me driving it about a week later and he had this wtf ecpression on his face. SUCkER!!!!!

Yeah, This one smoked for about 30 minutes or so but it hadn't been run in a few years either. I can see why he was mad though, The previous owner was a body man/ painter and had restored the whole car. It just didn't run, hehe.

holy **** are you serious? it smoked for half an hour???? i just installed a motor in my car, and was able to get it to fire up, but i had to shut it down after 10 seconds due to all the fumes coming out of the exhaust. the car is in my garage, which is attached to our house (its like a converted warehouse with 3 apartments). all my neighbours got smoked out of their houses and came to see where the fire was coming from!!! lol....and that was only 10 seconds. im waiting for my intake gasket to show up, so i can actually run it for a while and see how well this motor runs.....and i expect its gunna smoke for a few minutes due to all the excess gas and oil and crap in there, but HALF AN HOUR???? if it smoked for more than 5 minutes, i probably would just have thought the motor is no good....so after half an hour it ran well? damn!
