Wiring problems!

So I was trying to ground the engine off somewhat...I ran a wire from the negative battery post to the bolt on the TB where the alternator grounds off. (the one one the right on the side if you are facing the engine.) I was gonna route it to the opposite side....well i the negative side hooked up and touch the wire to the bolt on the TB and sparks start flying! Pulled it off...hopped in teh car turned the key to make sure I hadnt burned anything up. Everything worked fine except for the gas gauge.
Got out and drove the car for an hour and all of the sudden the gas gauge starts working again. What did I do? I did run it from the negative post (100% sure lol)
Do I have a hot wire grounding out near the tb? WTF!

That bolt on the dynamic chamber is actually battery +, not ground. The bolt there is actually insulated from ground and is just an intermediate attachment point between the alt output post and the fusible links. The alt gets grounds through its body (mounts to the engine). Hopefully nothing was damaged. Check the fusible links over and the fuses to make sure all is okay.

The gas gauge may or may not be related. I had a bad sender on mine (quit working correctly all of a sudden). It would read when the tank was full. But once the level got down around 1/2 tank, it would quit working completely.

Ok cool...thanks for your help! All the fuses are A-OK! and teh gas gauge hasnt malfunctioned since! I could have sworn that i had read that that was a - grounding point. Makes sense now though!

actually i would suggest moving that wire on the intake.all it does is connect the alt. to the batt. just take the wire that runs to the batt and run it directly to the alt. the little 2 wire harness that goes into the back of the alt. can be shortened also. for whatever reason they put a little 6 inch section in there that does nothing. just unplug itfollow it back to the next connector, unplug it and plug the engine harness back into the alt.

after i did this mine started charging a little better
