Wiring help, cigarette lighter

Ok, anyone here know how to make it so that the cigarette lighter doesn't turn off when the head lights come on. It is really annoying because I have my discman pluged into it and when night come, blooop of it goes leaving me with just the radio. Any help is welcome because I don't feel like wiring a new cig lighter in.

What year? My 80 is on the same circuit as the hatch popper, the dome light, and a few other things..

My 85 shuts off with IGN key, thats an odd problem you got there...

Id just go to Radio Shack get you a cigar lighter plug, and little wire into a constant fuse in the fusebox, ground the (-) on it, and off you go

That is REALLY Wierd. I could understand if it's turning off when the ignition is off, but when the lights come on?

Maybe you got an amperage problem. Too much draw from the lights might be causing a low voltage problem on the discman.

Check with just the parking lights only to see if the problem persists. That doesn't sound like a "factory" option and you might have a larger electrical gremlin in the works.

Ya, it does turn off with the Parking lights too. But the strange part is that it doesn't turn off with the ignition. Hmm, well I am going to try out some re-wiring of my own. Ya as in my sig. I have a 1983 limited.

i have never had that problem with either my 80 or 79, so if they are anything like yours, i would say that you have a voltage problem..

i have my radar dectector hardwired into the cig lighter. never have any problems.. never have problems either when i run a g-tech or anything else in the cig lighter (night or day)
