Wiring help

Well, I have my engine mounted, everything is hooked up except the wiring. I have a standalone ecu that I want to use.

Currently there's a mess of wiring remaining from the old 12A coming through the firewall, today I decided to get it out of there so I can start wiring my ecu and get the car on the road.
I tried to get under the dash to get it but I was completely lost and too smashed in there to do much. My questions are...

How do I remove the wiring that is coming from the driver side firewall?
How do I remove the old computer?
Can I do it without removing the dash?
Where should I start?

This is frustrating me to death, the search function turns up nothing and my haynes manual is just a stack of useless paper when it comes to my problem.

Please help me out.

You can get the wiring through the firewall, but in order to physically remove it, you will have
to take out the dash.

Old computer should be under the passenger footwell. Pull up the carpet and you should see
it.

Start by removing all the plugs until you have the whole harness hanging off the driver side
fender. Then remove the dash.

Would it cause problems if I just left it partially there? I reeeally don't want to remove my dash.

removing the stock wiring is something ppl do for a cleaner look but isn't completely necessary. the control box in the passenger floor under a metal plate isn't so much an ecu as what the standalone u have is. one thing i do know it does is keeps fuel pump from running until it senses oil pressure. the standalone probably supplies power to the fuel pump so that wouldn't matter anyway. some of the stock wiring u'll need to retain for the charging system and gauge cluster and other interior controls. but outside of that, u can just clip what u don't need at the firewall. u could install ur ecu in the place of the stock control unit and run the wiring out the pass side since very little stock wiring goes thru the firewall on that side anyway. gl and let us know how things progress.

It wouldn't cause problems if you left it there, but if you had to trace wires or
needed room under the dash (you will be surprised how dense it is back there) it
would be good to not have it there.

It will take you about a day (or two if you take your time) to R&R the dash. Sam and
I did one in about 3 hours time.
