Wiring for headlights?
Hello everyone, I own a 85 7 12a and I was wondering if anyone had some kind of wiring information for the headlights. Wires are all cut. From what I saw from 1 diagram I have it appears there is a red/yellow red/blue then ground, so just got to hook it up to 2 wires that are red/yellow and red/blue coming from the firewall. I found the 2 red/yellow on the firewall but only 1 of the red/blue and grounded it with still no headlight working. So this is what has got me kind of stumped. I only see 1 red/blue wire and I am not even sure if this is all correct. But if anyone has any information on this please let me know.

According to the 84 wiring diagram (I don't have an 85 book) your info is pretty much correct as far as it goes.
A single RL and single RY come from connector E-01 (combo switch on the column) and go direct to the headlight connectors E-24 and E-25. They branch partway there; IIRC the splice is just before the left headlight lead breaks off from the main bundle that crossed in front of the rad.
If your harness is cut somewhere midway, be advised: There are multiple RY wires inside the harness (one for the lights and one for the retractors, maybe more) and the only ways to be sure you have the right one for a specific device is to either follow it to an identifiable connector, or to switch the control for it and test to see if voltage follows.
You need to make sure the combo switch is getting power first, too (WG wire into the combo switch from the main fuselink block) and the switch is working. Otherwise you could be on the right wires but have no power due to a break further upstream.
Best point for testing would be the E-01 connector at the Combo switch. Both power in and power out go through there.

I have an 85 12a as well.... an i just got my headlights working the other night... i have the FSM and just followed the wire diagrams, they are pretty user friendly... if you need pics of anything i can defenetly take a picture of how mine is wired and relay that to you! good luck! seems like everyone on here needs a little Luck in their corner!

I will check foxed to see if maybe what they have is useful. As of right now I plugged them together and got no head lights. My dumbass cut the cord to them in the engine bay and I am a complete noob with wiring. But I am assuming then since there are several wires with the same color maybe I just tried the wrong one.

Do you have headlight motors from an '85 that you are putting in so it's a direct replacement?
If not you must determine what year the motors are from and look and trace what does where in order to successfully complete this project.
Also I fried a fuse in the process when I did mine so look at the fuses also. One fuse controls the headlight motors and another controls the lights I believe.
