wiring diagram help PLEASE!!!!

Seriously, this thing has been pissing me off for 6 months now. And please stop telling me to read the diagram because every time I do, it makes me frustrated.

so I have the 1980 combinationswitch I picked up on ebay with no connectors. My car does not have the stock chassis harness, it is a southernrods unit. I have a ton of wires and can't get them to work and frankly I am tired of trying to read this thing. Someone here has to be able to read a schematic so please help label these wires.

I have the wiper circuit somewhat figured out so for simplicity lets leave those out for now.

but here it is.

loom 1
white with red stripe
red with blue stripe
red with green stripe
blue with green stripe
blue with red stripe

loom 2
red with black stripe
red with white stripe

loom 3
green with brown stripe
green with white stripe
green with black stripe
green = horn (yes I figured that one out)
green with yellow stripe
white with blue stripe
white with green stripe

loom 4 (wipers incase you want to add this too. I was gonna just match them to the ones on the motor since they are the same anyway)
red
black
yellow
white
blue
green

please help me solve this. it is really all I need to get this streetable now besides brake hardlines. And frankly I want to enjoy some summer before the winter misery

thanks
Shawn

Give approximate wire gauge size with those listings please.

although your question is irrelevant, I estimate somewhere between 12 and 16g

Actually when trying to assess what you actually have, the wire gauge gives indications of whether it's a power feed/ground feed, or a component wire.

IE the 10ga white with red stripe wire is a power feed wire, while a 16ga white wire with red stripe would go to a component.

You also didn't tell us if your 1-4 loom is on the combination switch, or the chassis.

its all to the combination switch so my bad. I am using a aftermarket chassis harness so those ID's are already done. Thanks for the advice on those wires btw, I appreciate it. the problem is reading the schematics to me, it just doesnt make sense is all.

Okay, just to clarify, the wires you have listed are the wires on the car and you're trying to match them to the 1980 combo switch correct?

If so I'll get it work decoding.

The problem you are having is due to the wiring diagram not really directly giving pinouts for components; it gives schematics for circuits, and there are a number of circuits that go through the combo switch.

The four connectors on the 80 combo switch are called out on the diagram as

D-04
E-01
F-02
X-11

D-04 (on page D of the diagram) is a six-pin Male connector with all six positions filled; it runs the wiper and washer control.
D-04 B (black) goes to ground
D-04 LO (Blue w/Orange stripe) goes to the Intermittent input on the intermittent relay for the wipers
D-04 LW (Blue w/White stripe) goes to the Lo-speed wiper motor connector
D-04 LG (Blue w/Green stripe) goes to the common side of the intermittent relay
D-04 LR (Blue w/red stripe) goes to Hi-speed wiper motor connection
D-04 LY (Blue w/yellow stripe) goes to the washer motor and to the washer timer input on the intermittent relay

E-01 (on page E of the diagram) is a 4-connector male with two wires in opposite corners
E-01 RY is the low-beam headlight positive
E-01 RL is hte high-beam headlight positive

F-02 (Page F) is a n8-pin Female with 7 positions occupied. It runs hte turn signals and hazard flashers:
F-02 GY (Green w/Yellow) 12V switched power from ig.switch via fuseblock
F-02 GB (Green/Black) Flasher unit output
F-02 GR (Green/Red) Left turn front/rear lights & dash indicator
F-02 GO (Green/Orange) Right turn front/rear lights & dash indicator
F-02 GW (Grn/White) Flasher unit input
F-02 G (Green) +12v battery power from fuseblock 15A fuse
F-02 GL (Grn/Blu) Horn switch - - ties to ground when horn button is pushed

X-11 (on page X of the diagram) is a 6-connector female with 5 wires. It kind of goes all over the place.
X-11 R (Red) (page F) +12v battery power from fuseblock 15A fuse; input power for exterior marker/license lights lights
X-11 R (other Red) (page E) "Up" signal to headlight retractors
X-11 WG (Wht/Grn) (page E)+12V power from battery via fuse link on shock tower; headlight retractor input power.
X-11 RW (Red/Wht) (Page E) goes through the panel-mounted healight control switch; "Down" signal for retractors
X-11 RG (Red/Grn) (page F) Switched output from Light switch to marker/license lights; AND (Page E) interior illumination lights (dash, lighter, glovebox, stereo, ashtray, etc)

Hope that helps!

Yep the looms I referenced are from those connectors. Unfortunately the unit I got was cut so yeah. Thanks I'll give it a shot tomorrow after work. Only problem I see is there is no solid colors (other than the wiper wires and they are like 20g compared to the rest) oh the green horn too. I can work with what you posted at least it's a start. I can't read schematics for crap.

Thanks again I'll post pics as I go through and if I get stuck.

Just blew another combination switch. I had some of it sorted and for no reason I can think of it stopped working. This is really annoying. Btw none of the wires are right from the diagram. I have exactly as said in first post.

To help decifer the difference between the manual and what I got I linked the looms from the connectors posted.

Loom 1 is x-11, loom 2 is E-01, Loom 3 is f-02, loom 4 is d-04

Please advise.

Sounds like you need sort out the southernrods wiring to determine which wires to connect to the factory switch. The colors from the southernrods wiring does not mean they mate with the factory switch.

In this case, knowing the wiring schematic comes in handy. There really are no shortcuts for homework.

I must be explaining wrong somehow. The colors I posted are the actual sa22c combo wires and they are not what they should be. The sr harness is. Olof coded and labeled proper so that's. It an issue. I'm just going to look at the cuircit board diagram and try from there instead. Gotta wait till tomorrow now
