I'm not an expert but it sounds like the switch is bad to me, check your earth is good and none of the wires has broken.

Have you checked the dimmer switch? It may have gone bad, possibly be due to connecting those two wires under the shift boot, do a search for dimmer switch, its been covered several times.

Are all the exterior lights, other than the headlights, out? If so, there are 2 places to check. 1st the fuse under the dash (10A I think). 2nd, the combo switch. The section that controls all the interior and exterior lights is a little box on the back side of the combo swith. Open it up, clean the contact and put it back together.

When my lights went out I could not believe how gunked up this switch was.

Oh yeah, becareful when you open it. There are little springs and little ball bearings in there. You don't what to loose these. You should do this on a big white towel.
