Well, I guess the Army needs poages. (I served for 8 years as an 11B2V, that's light infantry, airborne ranger for you civies). Have fun at your training. Always remember that you should try to have fun with everything you do in the Army, and if you ain't cheating, you ain't trying.
As for long term storage, here's what I consider important (and I've had practice!):
1)Wash and wax and armorall-don't bother buffing wax out.
2)If inside storage, then drain the tank and carb.
If outside storage, fill the tank all the way, add fuel stabilizer, disable the fuel pump and run the motor until the gas is gone from the carb and motor dies. (full tank prevents condensation formation inside).
3)Change the oil and filter.
4)Pull the sparkplugs.
5)Fog the engine-pour 2 tablespoons of MMO down the carb throats while someone turns the motor over with the starter.
6)Put plugs back in, finger tight only, just to keep crap out. You're going to pull them again in the spring to turn the motor over and eject that MMO out the holes.
7)Pull the battery out and charge it on an automatic trickle charger. If you don't have one, then just charge it and recharge it in the spring.
8)Put the car on jacks to get the weight off the tires.
9)Cover the car. Don't use a blue tarp directly on your paint, as wind will cause chaffing and stratches. Put a sheet or something on first if you don't want to spend for a good cover.
Best of luck to you!
