Windshield Trim

Is there any other alternative to using the stock SS trim around the windshield? Has anyone tried using rubber? if so how did it turn out and how did it look?

Just asking, because I have missing pieces, and whats left, paint looks like crap. I plan on replacing and restoring, just asking to see if there are other alternatives out there.

Thanks

Sounds technical to me.

Personally, I am replacing all mine with better condition stuff as I am sure I will damn near destroy it all taking it apart. Just need to order the clips...

I just finished re-painting and installing that trim after replacing the windshield. The trim is a real pain to deal with, particularly if the window guy doesn't install the glass down as tight to the pinchwelds as it was stock.

However, I can't imagine coming up with something that looks better than stock. The way the trim wraps around the top, and bottom, mating with the side pieces and over-door rain gutter would be pretty tough to emulate on your own.

Why not just find the pieces you are missing, re-paint or powder coat, and reinstall with new clips? It's a fairly low$ job, particularly if you just re-spray them yourself with trim paint. Any glass shop should be able to get the clip kit for you, or order from BlackDragon.

Do be careful when disassembling to save the little rubber trim pieces that fit between the mating metal pieces.

why not polish the stainless?

I think I am going to just leave mine stainless vs. painting back black. When I paint the car I will also paint the mirrors body color and leave off the side trim pieces so there will be very little black on the car.

I agree
I am planning on replacing, and just met a powdercoat guy, was just looking in alternatives.
