windows go up!

for some reason something has maybe broken or something to do with my window
my windows are manual and for some reason its so hard to try to make it go up or down and when you are tryin to roll it up it seems to want to come off its track and like come out of the window door frame itself
why could this be happening? all of a sudden?

I thought this was a happy post about how you finally got them to go up . I dont know why they would do that all of a sudden sorry man. I would suggest pulling the door panels and seeing if something is binding or something. Try greasing them while youre in there too.

On my old 84 I had a simular problem. They were moving ok, then it became impossible to move them. I tried anyway, and the went out of the rails.
Solution was grease, and some silicon oil for the rubbers in the channels. I'd always try that before thinking about mecanical failure. Greasing is easy, and cheap, so it's always better to start there. If it doesn't work, it might be something little more tricky... You might want to check if they are positioned right. You can allign them with some of the many bolts that hold them, but I can't really explain that in words...

A plastic bushing in the regulator has prolly broken. Or a plastic glass holder broke.

Does your window handle flop up and down, or is it still fairly tight in it's bushing? If it is flopping up and down, it means that the outboard end of the shaft has worn the hole that supports it into an egg-shaped hole. This is very common with all Toyo Kogyo regulators, even REPUs and Ford Courier pickups can have this condition. Once the hole is oblong, the gears do not mesh properly, and will wear in an angular pattern until the gears will sometimes bind. The only cure for that particular condition is to replace the window regulator.
If you go to a junkyard to get one, you can test them quickly by checking for any lateral movement in the handle, and pulling the tightest one. I paid 15 bucks for the last one I got, and it was a really nice one. But, like the other guys said, it could be the plastic grommet at the bottom of the window or just need some grease. Those plastic parts get pretty brittle. -Mike
