window tinit pissing me off
ok so i tinted all my windows last week, i did the work in my heated garage(i like it around 80 degrees lol) and all turned out great with zeros bubbles or problems...but then a week later i parked the rx7 outside(-15 degrees out) for one night and i come out in the morning to see these tiny bubbles all over the back window! wtf happened and how do i avoid this when i redo it?
any experts here? cuz im dumbfounded by this
thanks

OMG! I just tried tinting some back glass with 35% a couple times, saw the title of this post, and had to agree!
Whats the worst is my first tinting ever was 5% on my other rx7 and came out flawless. This 35% is a royal PITA
yes Im using the $12/roll except I think its 16.. same thing right? The `best` you can get at schucks.
I even got a heat gun to try to shrink the tinting properly, Im thinking the glass is too curved..
Did you tint the glass using strips? Because if you were able to do it in 2 or 3 cuts, Id like to know your method!
-Thanks

You may have had small pockets of water still trapped under the tint... which then froze.
Water expands in volume 10% when it freezes.
This is a lot more likely to happen with the rear window because the thickness of the defroster lines provide places for the water to more easily hide.

ok haha ya that makes alot of sense! im going to try it again since the only pro tinting around here wants 75$ to do just the back window and thats if i take it off and bring it too them..what a rip off. so ill try it again with 2 pieces again and this time ill keep it in the garage for a couple weeks right infront of the heater

i have tinted many windows, the darker film is thicker so it's easier to get out the air bubbles, and the crap you paid 12 bucks for is crap.the film i use is $4 a foot. uv resistant, and easier to apply.like was said, you get what you pay for.i get mine from tap plastic here in Portland,Or.i don't know if they are nation wide so you might try someplace near you that handles plastic products.

How do you guys do the back window. I did mine a little while back albeit with $10 stuff from Advance Auto, but it just looks like hell on the edges because of the curvature of the glass. I had to do it in two parts because the roll wasn't wide enough and I ran the seam down one of the defroster lines to hide it. I want to redo it, but not until I figure out how to get it to work out right.

I had a pro do my Camaro. The back window on that thing is a monster in comparison to the RX7 w/curves and all. The thing still bubbled up w/alot of little bubbles everywhere. He told me to park it out in the sun and they would go away. Sure enough, the next sunny day after a couple hours of basking all the bubbles went away...??? Go figure. I think it was mid spring if I recall so the temps were alot better then -15, haha.

I've had 2 FBs done professionally - never any bubbling problems whatsoever.
I watched them do it- they'd wet the glass, wet the tint, and squeegee the tint on, then lightly hit it with a heat gun., IIRC (this was a few years back so I may be misremembering).
The rear defrost doesn't work as well as it did without tint, but on days when its bad enough to matter an RX-7 really shouldn't be on the road anyhow. Even if the car had proper winter tires I'm too worried about some jackass in an SUV relying on "traction control" for magic stopping power at icy intersections.

Amazing.. absolutely amazing.
Us 1st gen drivers/owners will do *anything* but take a car to a "pro" for everything except window tint.
Brakes? Pshaw! Like I'm gonna let someone do that for me!
Suspension? A compressed spring can only *kill* me.. it's not that bad.
Engine Rebiuld? I'll get the video and do it myself. Who'se scared of a bit of grease?
Window Tint? Woah.. **** man, better see a professional for that!
Jon
