WIll my tires rub. See pictures.

I have these new Diamond Racing wheels and am wondering if I wil need to do any fender modifications. THey are 15x7 in the front with 4" backspacing, so they stick out a little (about 1"). I have plenty of clearance in the rear (3.5"), but in the front I only have 1.5" of space between the top of the tire and the fender. I tried jumping on the strut top (I am 160lbs) and in the 5th position (Illuminas stiffest) I could get only .75=1" of travel. Under hard cornering do you think I will get any rubbing? The tires I am using are Kumho Ecsta V700 in 225/45-15.

I guess the best way to tell is to drive it. if you hear something that sounds like tires rubbing, then yes, they rub....

Yes, they'll rub!

I had about a cm of tire sticking out at one point using stiffer than stock suspension and slightly damaged my front gaurd. Don't risk it dude!

i think it will be close. they will probably rub at full steering, but for most street driving they should be fine.

Well on my racecar, we run a bunch of negative camber (static) on the front and they barely clear. Oh and the fender lips are rolled. I think you will get some rub if the strut compresses enough.

Whats the best way to modify fenders? Rolling them is what I have heard, but how do you do that? DOes it involve making lots of little cuts perpendicular from the edge, and bending the metal inwards and up??? Can this be done and still look ok?

no it's not that much (only 1" at the most), but it doesn't matter, because any distance beyond the fender outer edge is the problem. I might need a wide body kit I guess. It might look like more in the picture because the wheel is turned out a bit.

Anyone know anything about widebody kits or rolling fenders??

What about: mariahmotorsports mode1

DONT cut! Use the old NASCAR trick. Baseball bat between the fender lip and the tire. Roll the car and flaten/form the lip to go flat. Be careful as you can wrinkle the fender, so go slow. Also Ive heard the tire rack has a tool they'll loan you to do this, supposed to do a real neat job, call them and ask about it.

looks like your fuckt up front... I had rub once with less than that sticking out the side, not to mention that in some places having your tires stick out past your fenders is illegal.. hope this doesnt apply to you

I don't understand your first sentence. Do you mean the front looked f-ed up, or it will get f-ed up if I drive the car with the tires sticking out an inch?

You are correct. It is illegal for tires to stick out beyond the fenders, that’s why many cars stock look ridicules, like BMW's (fill those fenders up with rubber!).

My car is already illegal for the street (it's a race car, and I'm not worried about laws and such, because they don't apply to racing on the track or auto-x etc).

Well they will rub as it was said above.

On top of that I would check into the rulebooks b/c last time I checked you are not supposed to have any threads showing if you looks down from the top of the fender in stock and superstock categories. If you are not running that, then it should be fine.

Hmm. I'm gonna have to get me some wider wheels, or spacers...

I like the look with them protruding about an inch or so.

All the machine does is flatten the inner lip on the guard. It doesn't actually push the guard out. With the amount your tires are sticking out I doubt it will make any difference.
