Right now I am trying to find a rearend or a gear set or something. I am able to get a gsl for about 400 in town and I was wondering if the gsl 3rd member would bolt in my gslse and work. Both cars are 84s.
I am basically asking if the axles are the same size.

Gregs is correct. I just have to ask, why? Is the rearend in the se shot? I only ask because you may notice a slight difference in performance, because I think the se's had a slightly different final drive ratio. You may want to do a search on this. Not that it would hinder the swap, just something to be aware of.

I was pretty sure that all the lsd rearends had a final drive ratio of 4.10 and the non-lsd 3.909. I am trying to do the swap because I recently broke a tooth on my pinion gear and I need a new pinion. Since the ring and pinions are a matched set I have to replace both. I was going to try and buy a used ring and pinion set, be it 4.10 or 3.909, and rebuild my rearend using the used gears. I have recently found a rearend that I could buy and I was just wondering if I could bolt it up and not go through the hassle of rebuilding the rearend right now. In the future I will rebuild my current rearend, but I need a car to drive soon. I also need to hurry and get the car out of my friends garage.

Only the -SE's are 4.10:1, the GSL rear will be a 3.90:1

 

I thought the axles in the -SE rear end are a smaller diameter, though I'm not sure if hookup to the differential is any different.

 

Gsl-se and the 84-85 have the same size axles. Easy swap to do.

I just did this. It's easy, the rears are the same size and everything. The gears will change from 4.10 to 3.90 though.
